About this mod

A small resource that I originally made as requested for the Frontier.

This was originally something I was requested to make for the Frontier, and I always intended for it to be used as a resource following its release.

It works as you would expect, activate the ladder to start climbing it, you can use your Forward/Backward or Jump/Crouch controls to climb up/down. Forward/Backwards moves you either up or down depending on what angle you are looking at, so looking down and pressing forward will have you go down.

For a quick guide to setting up a basic ladder:

  • Attach the script to any activatable model that you wish to use as a ladder, or use activate parents.
  • Link the ladder to an XMarkerHeading on the ground, this will determine your starting position while climbing, as well as how low you can climb down.
  • Link the bottom XMarkerHeading to one at the top, this one will serve as the max height you can climb.
  • Link the top XMarkerHeading to a third one, this one will act as a dismount point whenever you get within 6ft of the top.
  • (Optional) On the ladder's reference, change the "Interaction String Override" on the Activate Parents tab to something more fitting, like "Climb Ladder".
  • (Optional) Alter the script if the sound or climbing speed does not fit the ladder type you chose.

And for a multipoint ladder, it's mostly the same with an added point in the middle.

  • Attach the script to any activatable model that you wish to use as a ladder, or use activate parents.
  • Link the ladder to an XMarkerHeading on the ground, this will determine your starting position while climbing, as well as how low you can climb down.
  • Link the bottom XMarkerHeading to a middle marker, you will move towards/away from this marker when climbing up if you are below/above it.
  • Link the middle  XMarkerHeading to one at the top, this one will serve as the max height you can climb.
  • Link the top XMarkerHeading to a fourth one, this one will act as a dismount point whenever you get within 6ft of the top.
  • (Optional) On the ladder's reference, change the "Interaction String Override" on the Activate Parents tab to something more fitting, like "Climb Ladder".
  • (Optional) Alter the script if the sound or climbing speed does not fit the ladder type you chose.

Since this is intended to be a modder's resource, the .esp includes a single ladder placed in Novac as an example of how to set up a regular ladder, and ladder points on the Goodsprings water tower to show how a multipoint ladder can be made. Keep in mind for the second reference, it will not look right unless you have Rectified Water Towers installed, but will work fine without it.

Here's a video showcasing a regular ladder in action:

Feel free to use this in anything you want, just credit me if so.
