History
The Mk. I tesla armor was developed by the US military shortly before the great war of 2077 as a method of making soldiers highly resistant to energy-based attacks without the use of expensive and cumbersome power armor. The armor uses 3 electrically charged tesla attraction rods on the left pauldron to create an electric field repulsive to plasma and flame-based attacks. Additionally, the armor's high-buff metallic finish and high-temperature steel construction is impervious to even the strongest of laser weapons. Unfortunately, the armor offers disappointingly little in the way of ballistic protection, roughly equivalent to a standard suit of metal armor found in the wasteland.
Mod Info
This is my first attempt at a fully rigged suit of custom armor, so there are a few oddities. I have little experience painting vertex weights, so some areas of the character mesh are a bit distorted, especially when crouching or firing a weapon. The main version of the mod uses scripts which require NVSE and the JIP Plugin. There is a separate .esp you can download which removes the dependencies from the scripts, but at the cost of some features. (Non-scripted version is no longer supported.) The scripted version includes electric discharge sounds when the armor is struck by energy weapon fire and the ability of the armor to short-circuit and drain your health when you get wet. Both versions also include a pair of welding shades with unique scripted effects as well, and the effects are the same in both versions.
Location
Only one set of armor is placed in the world. It can be found on the workbench inside the Brotherhood of Steel's safehouse. However, the armor is regularly kept in stock at the silver rush by the Van Graffs. The welding shades are located near a toolbox in the H&H tools factory.
Stats and Balance
The tesla armor reduces all incoming energy damage by 90%, whether from lasers, plasma, or fire, and gives a bonus +20 DT against energy-based attacks, effectively making the wearer completely immune to energy damage as only a few points at best get through with the strongest energy weapons in the game. However, the armor is lackluster against ballistic attacks, as it only grants 10 DT and a 10% damage reduction. These stats are meant to replicate the armor's performance in the classic games, in which the armor almost completely negated laser and plasma damage but left the wearer vulnerable to ballistic attacks without the use of chems.
The welding shades give a 50% chance to avoid 50% of energy damage, only when you are looking directly at your attacker (your crosshair must be hovering over them.) The 50% energy resist given by the shades stacks additively with the tesla armor, so if you wear both together you will ignore all incoming energy damage 50% of the time.
