Description:
Controversial as it may be, Fallout 4's approach to SPECIAL during character creation was a unique spin on the series and I appreciate what it set out to do.
This mod mimics that progression by reducing your starting SPECIAL budget to 28 points (versus 40 in the vanilla game), providing a perk at every level, and allowing you to take Intense Training at every level.
What this mod does not do is uncap the player's level or attributes. If you're playing with Jsawyer where you're capped at level 30, this could make for an interesting challenge.
(Infinite Intense Training is optionally available as a separate download, for those that are not interested in the perk rate/SPECIAL changes)
Highlights:
- Esp-less implementation
- Congruent with NV's more mundane, low-key early game, allowing for truly average characters (4 in all attributes)
- Slows down power creep, combating the weirdness of rapidly reaching superhuman attributes, especially with other gameplay-altering mods
- Provides a more granular, flexible experience toward progression. Intended for meandering players that don't wish to commit to a build in the early game
- Makes temporary buffs more useful, and permanent buffs become a more rewarding long-term goal
Caveats:
- Vanilla perks have not been balanced in response to these changes
- Due to scripting implementation, you won't be able to see how many times you've taken the Intense Training perk
- This is an experimental design approach and YMMV on how "weird" the balancing ends up
