About this mod
A Dog Companion that grows with a few commands and short quest. (Optional, beta test "cheat box" enabled)
- Requirements
- Permissions and credits
- Changelogs
- Heel, Find, Guard and Scout commands which improve over time.
- Dusty Grows!
Installation:
- Standard archive. Use your favorite mod manage or go manual.
- Installing mid playthrough shouldn't be an issue, tested at level 40 with a full suite of mods.
- Shouldn't conflict with anything except complete overhauls, they may break the quest "targets" (dust for instance).
- Use the cheat box in that case for now.
Many thanks to the below authors!:
- Nivea's Dog Eye Fix
- Xio's a Mad Mad Dogmeat Retex (FO3)
- WatersMoon110's Puppy Meshes Resource
- tumbajamba's Tactical Meat (FO3)
- scrumpusrex for the inspiration, Lady, from Delilah- Mojave MD
How to Start:
- (Recommended!) Short quest that follows the early game southern route. GS > GS Source > Mojave Outpost > Nipton > Novac > Freeside, plus a handful of campfires.
- All base game locations which can be fast traveled to if already discovered.
- (Alternatively) Spoiler:ShowCheat box on Doc Mitchell's porch. Just grab everything and read all the recipe notes then feed > train > repeat.
Consider everything below a possible spoiler!

Growing:
- Feed and Train Dusty to help him Mature!
- Recommend Feed once > do at least one Training > then continue to feed and train as desired. For some reason doing all of either first might break things.
- Hint: Doing training increases the treats you get per feeding, only a challenge early on.
Growing requires:
- 5 feedings per Age. Enough recipe ingredients are located near the various quest targets, campsites and at Freeside North Vendors.
- Total Recipe Requirements: (Pork n Beans x20, Cram x15, Stimpaks x10, Beer x5, RatMeat x5.
- Training Uses (per Age, scale). 5 Heel, 5 Successful Finds*, 15 Guard, 20 Scout. (Keep in mind, "relax" ie. Cancel command also uses a treat but doesn't count as training)
Commands:
- Default Follow (cancel command) - Dusty follows a ways back.
- Heel - Dusty will move in close and remain Heeled even after changing weapons, for a while.
- Heel Level 2 (15x Heel Train) - Dusty will stop attacking others & they'll stop attacking him, sometimes.
- Find - Dusty runs around finding things. Might loose them if interrupt before returning!
- Find Level 2 ( Quest Completed ) - Give Dusty things to Find, mostly.
- Each *successful* Find increases "luck" and counts toward a "Training". Ie. Cheesing the Find button does nothing, unlike the other 3 commands.
- Guard - Dusty attacks all but nearby Teammates, remains close after changing weapons, for a while.
- Guard Level 2 (20 guard training) - Dusty can Target far away enemies or other objects.
- Use Heel at lvl 2 to attempt to call him off. "Friendlies" will usually forgive him (become not agro towards him)
- Dusty may become stuck aggro!! Only time will cool him down either naturally or by waiting / sleeping.
- Scout - Dusty tries to lead to wherever your crosshair is pointing, remains active after changing weapons.
- Similar to fo4 dogmeat.. "similar!"
- Each use increases reaction time & distance, I typically burn through 2 scout clips right out of the gate.
- Dusty's guide torch can be enabled or not through his dialogue.
Perks Dusty Gains
- Solar Powered, Repair Limbs, Knock Down & Heal Others
Other Features:
- Dusty can use Stimpaks or Doctor's Bags to heal through dialogue (when injured)
- Dusty can be told to wait or
be dismissed to Goodsprings(needs work) - He can be made essential or not ("Let's Talk")
- Vest can be enabled of not through dialogue ("Let's Talk.")
- Inventory (find items) access at higher levels. (up to you not to break the game!)
- Yes, you can find a bunch or gobi snipe rifles.. for now.
- Not technically a Teammate so shouldn't count against total
- Brought along to both BigMt and Lonesome Road, tested in Dust.
- Debug / Status message box because, why not? ("Let's Talk")
Several lines of new dialogue!!!
- Ok, just a handful of whistles, but still!
Dusty Grows!
BETA! It's about 90% fleshed out, functionally it should be fine, but I'm no 3d animation artist so the "whistle motion" is just an invisible gun.
Enjoy! Let me know what you think or what needs fixed!
