DESCRIPTION:
"PCE-VL" is designed for users who appreciate Palaces and Castles Enhanced (PCE) but would prefer to have specific locations in their Skyrim game that remain in a non-PCE state, allowing them to reserve these locations for other third-party overhauls or modifications.



CONTENT GENERAL:

  • All light plugins (ESP-FE) to NOT amount towards your overall plugin count
  • USSEP edits are forwarded to all MAIN modules. USSEP provided patches forward USSEP created edits forcing it as master
  • USSEP/OCS Patches are provided as well

FEATURES:
  • CUSTOMIZABLE ENHANCEMENTS:
    • This mod allows users to selectively choose which locations enhanced by PCE should remain in their vanilla state and which ones should be enhanced by PCE. It offers a modular approach to customization
  • REVERTING TO VANILLA:
    • For the locations that you choose to be "Vanilla restored," the mod undoes the edits and additions made by PCE, returning them to their original, unaltered state in the game
  • COMMUNITY-SOURCED IDEA:
    • The idea for creating this mod came from the Modular PatchXPress (MPxP) community, specifically for restoring Solitude's Blue Palace to its vanilla state. However, the mod goes beyond this and covers all PCE-enhanced locations
  • EXTERIOR EDITS:
    • In addition to the interior, if the subject location had any exterior edits made by PCE, those exterior changes will also be reverted to their vanilla state when that location is chosen for restoration
  • IN SUMMARY:
    • "PCE-VL" is a mod that allows Skyrim players to have the best of both worlds. They can enjoy the enhancements of the PCE mod in some locations while preserving others for different overhauls or for a more authentic vanilla experience




TO BE AWKNOWLEDGED BUT NOT TO SCARE THE READER:
  • Until (and if) more third-party support/patch hubs release content geared for this, its more for "Advanced Users and Mod Patchers"
  • Odds are many 3rd-party PCE patches may require either: reversion (this mods approach) or removal of reverted subject Cell(s) 
  • Had this been around for awhile with extended supports available, that's another story where much more needs are met for novices
  • This stated IS NOT to say in absolution you will encounter conflicts. None might happen at all. Nobody knows what else you will install
  • Understand that patching, or direct-editing existing PCE patches, could be a reality and, for now, will be the sole responsibility of the user
  • IF this mod spikes interest and other patchers extend patch support for it, I will take this "Advanced Users and Mod Patchers" disclaimer down

MECHANICAL:
  • All PCE newly created; Quests, Packages & Scripts with explicit association to each locations PCE created references being removed are dismounted
  • All PCE Vanilla edited; Quests, Packages & Scripts associated to each locations removal of PCE created references are USSEP (if handled) or Vanilla restored
  • All VanillaID references that where either; PCE reused (for other purposes) or disabled are Vanilla restored with all USSEP edits (if any) reinstated/forwarded
  • For any VanillaID, Non-Persistent REFRs in which PCE made Persistent REMAIN Persistent if carried over in PCE-VL as a reverted override
  • Any plane marker which is 01<numbers> (which PCE disables), is RE-enabled. These injects give the benefit of SPO occlusion (even if they don't have SPO installed)
  • All locations have been tested in-game to ensure all reversion of said interiors (and its corresponding exteriors) have been Vanilla reverted correctly
  • PCE may still handle some VanillaID PACK/QUST/SCEN's unrelated to removal but NONE which should negatively affect native gameplay mechanics
  • There may be the odd PCE handled PACK/QUST/SCEN left to tweak RE: the more complex places like "Blue Palace" or "Palace of the Kings". What are updates for?
  • PCE-VL has been reviewed extensively zeroing in on things overlooked. I'm sure a few leftovers still reside. Alas, its out for the masses in a solid enough state to use
  • If any oddities are found, please, be sure it is from this and you've properly patched your stack extending PCE-VL's intended purpose and not reversing it



INSTALLATION:
  • PCE's strong recommendation of "NEW GAME" works best. I fully extend 100% and encourage this suggestion
  • There's a lot at stake installing PCE mid-game i.e Persistent Forms, Quests, Packages, Scripts, etc... then this dismantling or reverting lots of that
  • Stuff will likely just break and/or not work in accordance to how it is all intended to mechanically function
  • If issues materialize from installing this mid-game, keep it to yourself. Don't come knocking please and thank you
  • All other selection choice specifics are detailed in the provided FOMOD installer

    • Desired overhaul(s) for said location(s) handling all PCE-VL reversion edits and adding new content

    • All Patches geared towards your desired overhaul(s) of choice
    • As stated in above quote, some third-party PCE patches may need some rework. Nothing I would think as being too difficult. Mostly xEdit handled

COMPATIBILITY:
  • FOR CONTENT OFFERED ON THE PCE PAGE:
    • If any PCE-VL plugins require PCE Compatibility Patches, USE ONLY the PCE (ESL) Patches. NOT PCE (ESP) Patches OR BREAK (I don't work with them !!!)
    • (Optional) No Custom Music Patch - "PCE - No Custom Music patch.esp"
      • Load this ABOVE any of the provided MAIN PCE-VL plugins offered
    • (Optional) Droppable and Marked Barenziah Stones - "PCE - Marked Droppable Barenziah Stones.esp"
      • AVOID using this for now. Maybe In a later update I will scheme up a clever way how to deal with adding support for this
      • It handles the same Quest that's already a headache when "Solitude Blue Palace" and "Palace of the Kings" are reverted in separate plugins
      • Its this very same reason I had to create an explicit fix patch for the usage of reverted Blue/King Palace plugins used together
      • "Droppable and Marked Barenziah Stones" just adds more handling headache on the same Quest that is a pain in the butt to begin with
  • FOR CONTENT OFFERED ON NEXUS IN GENERAL:
    • No idea. I don't know if I will be making patches yet or not. Depends on my timeline/priorities. However, its not a difficult process patching this forward
    • PCE-VL demonstrates how it handles reversion in it's plugins. Using that ideology as your template, patching the same concept forwards shouldn't be that hard
    • I bet in many PCE patch cases, the resolve would be as simple as removing the Cell in said PCE patch which the PCE-VL plugin (you chose) is reverting 



PCE-VL vs PCE - VERSION CONTROL:

This pages content will need to be upkept per PCE updates. There is NO GUARANTEE I will even be around when/if PCE gets an update (assuming its far in the future)
I may have left the modding scene or not in this game anymore. Until and IF PCE ever does get another update, we will consider this MOD as a ONE-OFF for PCE v2.3

FILING REPORTS:
  • As stated above, please make sure this mods intended purpose reigns victor and its not being inadvertently undone by 'unknown to be named' external contents
  • Description/details are essential. Take technical screenshots with More Informative Console (MIC). The more offered helps debug the overall matter easier/sooner

  • Q. Do you plan on extending/making patches for third-party mods?
  • A. I have not decided yet. I share this as a strong parent others can continue off from child patching other mods (if other mods need reverting & user wishes to do it)
  • Q. Can you make another set of versions only reverting the interiors and leave the exteriors PCE?
  • A. Of course but NO. Multiplying the overall MAIN plugin choice amount based on accumulating petty prefs makes for more to manage/others to patch for
  • Q. Can you port this to LE?
  • A. I have not decided yet. Respect that please. Don't pest me. The more its pressed and mentioned delays it happening (if I choose to port it when I decide)
