The metallurgy in Skyrim is nuts

Seriously. Corundum is a gemstone (sapphires and rubies, specifically), moonstone is not a metal, quicksilver is a liquid, and ebony is a kind of wood! Steel is obviously not made by combining iron ore and sapphires, and there's no such thing as a corundum ingot.

So whatcha gonna to do about it?

Mostly, just rename things:
  • corundum ore ➡ copper ore
  • corundum ingot ➡ bronze ingot
  • quicksilver ➡ chromium
  • orichalcum ➡ tungsten
  • moonstone ➡ titanium
  • ebony ➡ carborundum

Also, alter some smelting recipes:
  • 1 iron ore + 1 clay + 1 tundra cotton = 1 steel (this is roughly based on the ancient Wootz steel making process)
  • 10 copper ore + 1 tin ore = 5 bronze ingots

Wait, wait... tin ore?!?

Yes. Tin ore can be found when mining any ore vein, just a gemstones can. There's a moderate chance of getting tin ore when you would have otherwise gotten a gem, so it's kind of rare, but if you mine for a while, you'll find some. In the real world, tin is often found alongside other metals, so this is kind of realistic and it keeps the mod simple.

And so...

All plugins are ESL flagged.

There is an optional download which modifies Tweakish SE's bulk smelting recipes to be compatible, another that gives a more realistic (and expensive) recipe for smelting carborundum (formerly known as ebony), and a third which makes the other two compatible with each other.

The main download is broken into several different plugins based on which crafting materials they affect. You can freely enable or disable each of them as you prefer, since they do not depend on each other.

If you use new lands mods or mods which majorly overhaul the smithing system you might see some small oddities, but nothing should break. It will be more a matter of materials and ore veins having the wrong names in one place or another.
