Fair Rebalancing Of Transit Tariffs - Active Graph Evaluation

An enhancement to the popular Carriage and Ferry Travel Overhaul mod, with prices based on distance, war, and obstacles to travel.

About F.R.O.T.T.-A.G.E.

Does the fact that traveling from Riften to Windhelm is the same price as from Riften to Solitude rub you the wrong way?

Do you find it uncomfortably inappropriate that Bjorlam charges you more to travel to Dragon Bridge than to Solitude, even though you have to go through Dragon Bridge to reach Solitude and you clearly stated you wanted him to drop you off on the way?

If you answered yes then this is the mod for you. Prices will now be calculated based on the actual distance, route obstacles, and how the civil war is going. Does a bandit fort get too close to the public road? That'll be extra until you clear it out. Legionnaires or Stormcloaks causing unsolicited friction in the countryside, that'll cost more too.

Help clean up the mess made by bandits and soldiers and make the roads safe for travel and prices will drop.

The prices are now fully negotiated and agreed up with the Tamriel Carriage Drivers' union (Skyrim chapter), and are based on the included graph image:

The route taken is the shortest route between the two locations. The prices are 2x at the beginning, increase to 3x when the civil war gets going, and drop to 1x once you've settled the affair. Any obstacles (bandits/forts/etc) are added on after. If you clear a bandit outpost, it's removed. For forts, these are removed once the war is settled.

Note on "Clearing" Forts: Only "clearable" locations on the image are "clearable". See UESP for details of which ones are.

FAQ

  • What about Ferries? Ferries are not part of the Tamriel Carriage Drivers' union, and their prices seem more reasonable.
  • Are the free carriages at Hearthfire homes still free? Yes, they are not protected union members so you are free to exploit them as usual.
  • I won the war but for a few seconds the prices didn't fall. It's totally unplayable and I demand my money back! This isn't a question, but as Skyrim has yet to have high speed fiber internet laid down, it can take up to 10 minutes of game time (depending on your settings) for the courier to deliver the message that the war is over to all the carriage drivers. Be patient, kick your shoes off, and feel the luxurious snow beneath your feet. Then get back to murder hoboing.

Customization

F.R.O.T.T.-A.G.E. is set up to be perfectly balanced and immersive by design and changing any of its settings is sure to anger the Carriage Drivers' union. However, if you feel brave, the mod is controlled primarily by two JSON files.

It is advisable not to change the values mid game as the mod will only recalculate the costs when something important happens (a bandit fort is cleared, war is over/begun).

The file "settings/FROTTSettings.json" controls:
  • The base cost per graph step
  • The war multipliers (in the early and full war)
  • The base cost for bandits and forts along the way
  • The settings for each fort, specifically the cost multiplier for that fort.

The file "settings/FROTTRouteSettings.json" controls the cost of each route, as agreed upon with the drivers and calculated from the graph in the image above. Changing this will change the base cost on a route-by-route basis.
