This mod is partly inspired by the radiant conversations in Oblivion where NPCs talk about mudcrabs, what books they've read and other mundane things. Some of the lines from Oblivion are repeated word for word in this mod with other lines inspired by the conversations in Oblivion.

The idea was to breath new life into inns and taverns and add random conversations between NPCs. I've added 21 brand new, unique NPCs plus off-duty guards in the major cities, that visit the local inn in the evenings. The new NPCs will interact with each other and with selected vanilla NPCs who use default voice types.

Features
  • 21 new and unique NPCs
  • 13 new voice types
  • 8 new types of scene with random conversations, all taking place within inns and taverns
  • Supports mod-added inns and taverns
  • Off-duty guards in the major cities
  • Some unique outfits using Willybach's textures

Scenes Overview

Books Scene

Similar to the radiant dialogue between NPCs in Oblivion, an NPC will approach another NPC and tell them what book they're reading or have just read, and the other will respond. Most of the lines are pulled straight from Oblivion but I've included a few new ones, as well as adapting some to fit Skyrim.

Mudcrab Scene
Again, NPCs added by the mod will approach one another and make a comment about mudcrabs, with a random reply from the other. Similar to the books scene, many of the lines are straight from Oblivion.

Get A Drink Scene
NPCs from the mod will approach the innkeeper and ask for a drink. Again, all the conversations are random with random responses from the innkeepers. Supports mod-added inns provided the mod author has added standard keywords and markers. There are special scenes for The Ragged Flagon.

Hello Scene
Selected vanilla NPC voice types will greet the new NPCs. The new NPCs will respond with either a generic comment, or they'll greet the vanilla NPC by name with dozens of vanilla NPCs included. Sometimes they'll say things that makes other nearby NPCs laugh. There is some quest awareness (especially in Dawnstar) and there are some unique conversations for some NPCs.

Rumours Scene
Selected vanilla voice types plus all the new voice types will approach a new NPC and ask if they've heard any rumours or gossip lately. All the responses are random, with a few surprises. Sometimes they won't have anything to say or just don't feel like talking.

Tall Tales Scene
On a similar note, the new NPCs will approach each other with a tall tale, a story that's probably made up, with suitable responses.

Male Flirt Scene

Selected male vanilla voice type NPCs will approach the female NPCs in the mod and offer to buy them a drink, with varied responses. Some male NPCs that are married will trigger a more suitable response, but this will differ if their wife has died.

Ongbarn Jokes Scene
If Ongbarn is in the inn, as you enter, you'll hear him delivering just the punchline to a joke. He has dozens of jokes that he will deliver at random. Other NPCs nearby will laugh and occasionally comment.

I've also added some off duty guards that you'll find in the inns in the major cities. They all use the vanilla guard dialogue but they're out of their armour and just looking to relax. If you don't want them to show up in the inns you can set a flag with a console command, just open the console and type set jb1guardai to 0 - this will prevent them from visiting inns. Set it back to 1 if you want them to resume their visits.

Some of the NPCs share voices but I've made it so that no two voices are in the same location, so you won't hear two of my unique NPCs talking to each other in the same voice.

Most of the voices are created using original voices on Eleven Labs, no cloning of vanilla NPC voice types has been carried out. All the vanilla voice type lines are made by reusing original audio from the game. Three of the NPCs are voiced by humans.

Most of the females have different dialogue depending on whether you bump into them from the front or back.

All of the NPCs have varied routines and I've tried to make it so that you mostly encounter them only in inns and only in the evenings. Three of the NPCs will travel between different inns but most of them will stay in their home location. See the article or the video for more detailed information on the NPCs added by the mod.

If you have Belrand as a follower, there are bonus comments to look out for from the NPCs.

Installation
Install like any other mod using your favourite mod manager. It is safe to install mid-game.

Compatibility
Should be compatible with most mods. Any mods that drastically change the interiors in inns may cause issues.

Notes
  • The mod is flagged as ESL so it won't take up a slot in your load order and is a very lightweight mod.
  • The mod was made with the older creation kit so it is compatible with all versions of Skyrim SE/AE.
  • If you don't hear any dialogue, try making a save and loading it.
  • The NPCs will use whatever body and skin mods you have installed and may look different on your setup. I recommend BnP Skin.
  • I highly recommend using a mod like Relaxed Bards or similar so the bards aren't constantly playing over the scenes.
  • I'd also recommend Hit Dialogue Scene Cooldown to reduce the frequency of vanilla scenes.
