About this mod

How many times have you accidentally grabbed a plate, food or book in your Player Home?

Most vanilla player homes come stocked full of items - food, potions, books, all sorts of clutter. With the AE update, the CC player homes have even more stuff everywhere.

I find it distracting to have selectable items everywhere in the house. It makes it hard to walk around and interact in a house. Your hand slips just a bit, and you activate that apple pie instead of the chair.

Other mods do this by replacing every active object with a static one. This is very intrusive and has to be specific to your load order and house mods. And of course, you lose the choice to ever select/use that object.

Using the power of BTPS, this mod adds a filter to prevent you from activating any of these items. This includes:

  • Food and drinks
  • Hanging plants and animals
  • Plates, cups, glasses and other utensils
  • Alchemy ingredients
  • Books
  • Potions
  • Pelts, ingots and other misc items

If you DO want to grab an item, just press the Left Shift button, and the Activate prompt will appear as usual. For gamepad controllers, use the Left Shoulder button.

Setup

After installing this mod, you will need to activate it in the MCM for "Better Third Person Selection". In the "Filters" tab, check the box for "No Household Clutter". See the mod images for reference.

Recommendations

This mod pairs excellently with Sweeping Organizes Stuff. It lets you put back any items you bump into or knock over, back to their proper place. However, if you actually grab an item instead of just knocking it over, it will no longer go back to its place.

And that's exactly what this mod prevents from happening. Win win.
