About this mod

The folks in Skyrim are an outspoken bunch. Now even more so! If you're filthy and smell bad, they will let you know, in no uncertain terms. Works with Bathing in Skyrim, Dirt and Blood, or Keep It Clean. ESP flagged ESL.

The folks in Skyrim are an outspoken bunch. Now even more so! If you're filthy and smell bad, they will let you know, in no uncertain terms. ESP flagged ESL.

Requirements
Bathing in Skyrim Special Edition - Unofficial Conversion

OR

Keep It Clean - A Bathing Mod

OR

Dirt and Blood - Dynamic Visual Effects

Installation
Install the appropriate version (You Reek for Bathing in Skyrim, You Reek - Keep It Clean for Keep It Clean, You Reek - Dirt and Blood for Dirt and Blood) using your mod manager as usual.

What does it do?
Adds voiced dialogue greetings to folks with most default voice types (FemaleYoungEager; MaleNord; etc.) that only fire if you're filthy according to Bathing in Skyrim or Dirt and Blood or Keep It Clean, depending on which version you download from here. (It doesn't auto-detect what you have installed, so make sure to download the right one or you won't hear any new lines.)

The lines are flagged as random with high priority. So NPCs who have their own preset greeting lines may not say them at all. And sometimes it seems like the engine doesn't distribute them to everybody who's eligible in an area (which is probably a good thing; you don't want these lines to dominate all the other fun random greeting lines out there). I have tested it in Solitude and Whiterun and I think enough folks comment when you stink to make it fun and immersive.

I used a combination of suitable lines from the original game and some lines I made with XVASynth to get it working. I am not making any money from this mod, so I don't think this involves a gross injustice to the original voice actors. Like much free modding, it is more in the spirit of a gentle parody, or perhaps a tribute from a devoted (bad) cover band.

If you think using XVASynth like this is a gross injustice, let me know in the posts. I may not engage in much discussion, but I would like to hear (halfway polite, halfway reasonable) arguments against this kind of use of XVASynth (apart from the argument that XVASynth is scratchy and ElevenLabs is better: that's probably true, but XVASynth is convenient and free.)

Compatibility
Should be compatible with everything. It just adds some random greeting dialogue that only fires when you're filthy.

Tools Used
XVASynth for around three quarters of the new lines.

Version 1.0
  • Added dialogue greetings to most default voice types (except e.g. MaleChild, vampires, etc.). 41 lines in total. Collect them all!

Future plans
  • A version for Keep It Clean. (DONE)
  • A version for Dirt and Blood (DONE)
  • A version that lets NPCs greet other NPCs appropriately when those NPCs are filthy
