"Necromancy? I am a member of the College of Winterhold, in good standing!" - Says Wuunferth the Unliving, Court Mage of Windhelm, when you suggest that he has been toying with the darker arts of Conjuration. But what's this? You ask him what he has for sale and there it is! Necromancy! Spell tomes for raising the dead! That bastard!
Everywhere you go in Skyrim magic is looked on with suspicion and disdain, and no magic seems to be as hated and feared as Necromancy.
But for some reason you can walk up to public figures such as Court Wizards, some of whom literally mention their opposition to necromancy in dialogue, and buy necromancy spells from them with absolutely no questions asked.
- Necromancy Is Taboo
The excellent mod Necromancy is Taboo introduces much needed improvements to spells leveled lists, to exclude Necromancy spellbooks from "those mage vendors who are upstanding members of society" and shouldn't sell them. This goal is achieved by making changes to 9 vanilla merchant containers, which generates the need for compatibility patches for all mods that want to change or add to those same containers.
So, this mod provides an alternative that doesn't need patches: thanks to Container Item Distributor (CID) the spellbooks are removed from specific containers without making any changes to vanilla records, in fact no ESP is needed!
Please read the description of Necromancy is Taboo for technical details (and show some love to the mod and its author!). While the implementation is generally the same, this mod includes a few differences from the original that I consider appropriate:
- removed Necromancy spells from Falkreath's general store (selling Raise Zombie in a city dedicated to the respectful burial and remembrance of the deceased seems inapropriate)
- kept the Necromancy spells for Sybille Stentor (she clearly and canonically does what she pleases in Solitude)
Installation
Drop the file in the Data folder, after making sure that Container Item Distributor is successfully installed and working.
Compatibility
Thanks to CID, support for spell mods can be included in this mod without requirements. Currently supported:
