Dear Diary itself lets you choose which components to install. So it was easy enough to just reinstall it and tell it to NOT overwrite the dialogue menu. Pro tip: have your custom configuration files in a separate archive so they don't get overwritten.
The squish fix, on the other hand, just includes all of the interface files without asking. So it still prevents Classic Dialogue Menu from working.
To keep things nice and tidy, I created a copy of the squish fixes that omits the dialogue file (specifically for the "warm" version). So you can download this and use it instead of the old squish fix that still includes the dialogue file. Or you can edit your own files and delete the dialogue menu however you like.
Now obsolete since the squish fix mod itself has an installer that lets you de-select the dialogue menu.
