I saw this mod a while back and I tried it out, I liked the concept but it was buggy as all hell, so I took to looking at it's files through the Creation Kit and SSEEdit to see how it was made and made my version, it worked really well so I thought I'd share it and how to make it, see what you guys will do with it.

How to make any crossbow automatic
To make your crossbow mod or a patch for a crossbow mod automatic, you're gonna need to first head to the original mod's page (I've linked it above as "this mod" if you've missed it) and download the mod, install it and make sure the mod is enabled or it won't appear in the creation kit, what we need from it is the scripts folder so delete everything else in it and leave the scripts folder intact, like so:

Now that we have that installed, you're gonna need to go into the Creation Kit, in here you want to click on "File" located at the top left corner and then "Data", this should open up a dialogue box showing all your mods (I recommend opening the creation kit through MO2 or whichever mod manager you've got). Select the base game, the DLCs and the mod or mods you want to make a patch for, don't click on set active file, this let's you edit stuff that's already existing, do this only if you're editing existing mods, this is at your own risk, in that case you're gonna want to select the mod and click on set active file, click "OK" and wait for everything to load, if you muck it up, reinstall said mod and try again:

Once everything is loaded, we want to make a magic effect with the script, to do this, we're gonna need to navigate to the Magic Effect tab in the Creation Kit and double click on any existing, available magic effect (I find this the cleanest way to do this), make sure to change the ID, that's the very first thing you should do or your mod will edit the existing effect and cause issues, name it anything you like, now copy the settings in the image below. Make sure everything aside from the ID and the name are exactly the same, now you're gonna want to go to the side that says papyrus scripts and click add script, this should take some time to load on the first try but a window should open soon after, in this window you're going to search for the name of the script by typing "J3x", this should bring up a few if you've followed the instructions thus far, you can select between "crossbow auto effect script" for fully automatic crossbows,  "crossbow semi effect script" for a semi auto effect, and "crossbow burst effect" to shoot the bolt in short bursts or long bursts depending on what you want. After the effect is added, you're going to want double click on it in the scripts panel or click on it and click properties, a window should open up, click on the names that appear and click on edit value to edit the corresponding values, click ok and the window should close, if you're asked to create a new form click on yes, we want a new unique form with the ID we've just made.

The values are yours to customize and experiment with, the clip size is how many bolts you can fire at a time and the firing speed is self explanatory.

After making the magic effect, you're gonna want to make a spell with said magic effect applied, so head on over to the spells tab, it shouldn't be too far from the magic effects tab. When you get there you're gonna wanna find a random spell and change it's ID at once so you don't forget, again IDs are really important. After changing the ID, give it a name and copy the settings below, right-click on the empty space to the right, click on new, this should bring you to a new window, in the list you're gonna want to find the magic effect we just made, click on the magic effect to add it and click on the prompt that asks you to create a new form with the ID you chose:

That's most of the heavy work done, congratulations if you made it this far. Now we're gonna need to apply the effect to the weapon, navigate to the weapons tab, you want to find which weapon it is you want to apply the effect to, double click on the weapon and a window should open. In the bottom right side of the window there should be a section that says papyrus scripts, click on add and type "J3x" once again, this time we want to choose the "CrossbowAutoScript" (don't mix it up with CrossbowAutoEffectScript, these are different), after it's added select it and click on properties again, another window should open up. Click on crossbowspell and select the spell you made, then click on the quickshot perk and select the quickshot perk from the list or leave is as the default, your choice, click on ok and save the new mod by going to file and saving the mod, alternatively you can click on the render window and hit Ctrl+S, it should ask you where you want to save the file, if it doesn't, check the overwrite folder, if it's there right-click and open in explorer and move the .esp to the same folder as the one with the scripts. That's it. You have a mod, make sure it's enabled in both the left and right sides of MO2.

KNOWN ISSUES

Sometimes the crossbows may stop firing automatically, this can be fixed by dropping and picking it up again.
The quickshot perk can cause issues with the crossbows.
