Because Hjerim is used for the 'Blood on the Ice' quest I didn't want to alter the original house at all, so I added a way to activate my version of the house after purchase:
- Purchase the house as usual from the steward, and the decoration option "Clean up that killer's mess". Do not purchase any other
decorations.
- Enter the house - there will be a button on the wall by the front door.
- Push the button - it will disappear after you activate it.
- Leave and re-enter the house.
This is best used on a playthrough where you have not already decorated the house - if you have, the button should still show up and everything should work, but I haven't tested it.
Features
- Crafting: cookpot, oven, alchemy lab and enchanter. There are no blacksmith crafting stations but I added a chest at the Windhelm blacksmith that is linked to the "Smithing Supplies" storage in the house so you won't have to cart all of your materials back and forth.
- A bathroom with a tub for bathing mods
- Housecarl's room with one bed
- Spare bedroom that can hold either 3 followers or 6 kids. Use the button next to the bedroom door to toggle between the two options. You will need Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions to move your kids/spouse in.
Compatibility
I didn't touch anything outside of the house except to add a chest at the blacksmith, so it should be compatible with any Windhelm overhaul mods. At worst there may be clipping with the smithing chest, but nothing that will break your game. Definitely compatible with Dawn of Skyrim, because I use that mod. It should be compatible with Open Cities, but you won't have the smithing chest.
Load this mod before Open Cities and after any lighting overhauls you are using.
