About this mod

This mod gives every city an own (visually differing) currency. it replaces the gold coin texture in game with 5 different variants simultaneously. So in Whiterun you´ll find Whiterun coins, in Riften you´ll find Riften coins and so on. The holds have either the Imperial or the Stromcloak version (depends on backstory)

Idea:

It always bothered me that there´s only one currency in the entire game. Sure, Skyrim is one province, but it has such a variety of Holds and Cities, that it would make kind of sense having different currencies for at least some of them.

So i started creating five different textures for the gold coin and building the mod Five Cities Currency. At first you only had to choose from the five optional textures and only replaced the vanilla one.

With the help of u/SuperOdie and most notably Shizof who created the script for this mod to work as intended, it is finally finished and ready to use.

What it does:

The different textures are now triggered, whenever a player enters a cell that uses another currency due to geographical, historical or political reasons.

  • So for example if you head to Falkreath, you´ll see the Solitude version of the coin as the Jarl of Falkreath supports the Imperials (who are located in Solitude the capital of Skyrim)
  • and if you find yourself in The Pale, you´ll see the Windhelm/Stormcloak coin, as its inhabitants sympathize with the Stormcloaks.

Every city has now its own currency, the Holds use either the Solitude coin (Imperials) or the Windhelm coin (Stormcloaks). In the open world you´ll see the Whiterun coin as i made that version with all five big cities on it and called it the Skyrim version.

The coins:

Five Cities Currency - Skyrim
has been made with the five big cities in mind. As Whiterun is kind of "the heart" of Skyrim and the story revolves around it, i put its coat of arms on the front and the other four cities Windhelm, Solitude, Riften and Markarth on the back.

Five Cities Currency - Solitude
This version represents the capital of Skyrim., the "seat of the High King".  It is also the cultural heart of Skyrim with its Bard academy. It has its coat of arms on the front and shows the Blue Palace and the Academy on the back

Five Cities Currency - Stormcloak
Windhelm is the home of Ulrfic Stormcloak and according to the story behind the rebellion, one of his quotes and the "Bear" are put on the front "i fight because i must" and an anonymous ancient nordic quote on the back, which recalls of freedom and ancestry: "Throw off the shackles of Imperial oppression. Do not bow the yoke of a false emperor. Be true to your blood, to your homeland"

Five Cities Currency - Markarth
The "White City" or the "City of Stones" was built from the ruins of Nchuand-Zel, which has been re-purposed into the modern city state. On the front you see Markarths´ coat of arms and on the back a Dwemer Puzzle Cube

Five Cities Currency - Riften
It is the southernmost and easternmost of all the cities in Skyrim and home of the Temple of Mara shown on the back of the coin
