About this mod

Spellshaping gives you the ability to modify almost any spell, enchantment, shout, or power in the game in a variety of ways.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Version 1.3.5:
  • It should now be possible to reduce any spell's casting time to 0.
  • Fixed a bug with the Apocalypse Compatibility Patch that had made multipliers apply more than once on reload.

Version 1.3:
  • Fixed a bug that had automatically set some Destruction spells to have long casting times.
  • You can now modify the range at which Chain Lightning bounces to other foes.

Version 1.2:
  • You can now change the Magicka cost of any spell.

Spellshaping adds a detailed MCM menu which lets you modify spells, enchantments, shouts, and powers in the middle of the game. Unlike other mods which make general changes to one type of magic or another, Spellshaping lets you tweak individual spells. You could make it so Fireball has three times the area of effect but takes longer to cast, or you could balance specific spells or enchantments you thought were too powerful. What you do with this mod is up to you.

Spellshaping lets you modify the following aspects of a spell or power:
  • Magnitude (e.g. how much damage is dealt, how much healing is done, how high-level enemies can be affected)
  • Area of Effect
  • Duration
  • Magicka Cost
  • Casting Time
  • Hands Required (e.g. you could make it so Master-level ritual spells don't need two hands to cast)

Not all spells have all six of these options available (e.g. Fast Healing has no duration, so there's no option to modify its duration).

You can modify the following aspects of an enchantment:
  • Magnitude (the strength of an enchantment; increasing the magnitude via Spellshaping will not increase the value of items with that enchantment)
  • Duration

Note: Modifying an enchantment with Spellshaping will retroactively change pre-existing items with that enchantment (e.g. enchanted items sold in stores), and it will affect the power of the enchantment on items you craft in the future, but it will NOT retroactively change items you enchanted before modifying the enchantment.

You can modify the following aspects of a shout:
  • Recharge for one word spoken
  • Recharge for two words spoken
  • Recharge for three words spoken

The Spellshaping menu does not represent something one's character is doing; it's more like an options menu. Changes you make to spells will affect enemies' versions of the spells as well. So if you reduce the recharge of Unrelenting Force, expect your next battle with a Draugr Deathlord to be rather loud.

Spellshaping does not overwrite any files; the changes you make to spells are done on the fly via scripts. Thus, it should be compatible with mods that modify existing spells, enchantments, shouts, or powers, and Spellshaping should be able to detect the changes those mods make. Spellshaping also has compatibility patches with EnaiSiaion's wonderful mods Apocalypse, Summermyst, and Thunderchild, allowing you to modify the spells, enchantments and shouts from those mods.

Any changes you make with Spellshaping are maintained across saves, so if you start a new game you will not have to go back in the menu and do your modifications over again. You can safely install Spellshaping in the middle of a playthrough, and you can remove it as well: uninstalling Spellshaping will remove all its changes until you install it again.
