About this mod

An edited config.txt extracted from SkyUI's .bsa files, which disables the "hidden" option for value/weight sorting in the inventory menus, preventing players from having to activate the option in the beginning of every save.

Do yourself a favor and skip this piece of garbage, use this instead: Better SkyUI Config - Smart sorting by type. Unless you hate its changes to sorting for some reason - if so, keep reading.

If you play Skyrim modded on PC, you most certainly have SkyUI installed. One feature a lot of players don't even know exists is the option to sort your inventory menu items by value to weight ratio, the same way other mods such as moreHUD do by default. The reason for this is the option is tucked away in a tiny widget next to the inventory menu's search bar, and it's even more secluded for gamepad players who have to know to hold down LS to access it (I wasn't even aware of this after I've already published this file, Thanks Phendrena).

However, even with the knowledge this option exists, wouldn't it be nicer to have it enabled by default in the first place? Especially for us who like playing multiple characters often? This is what this tweak sets to do.

HOW TO INSTALL

Simply download it via your favorite manager or manually extract its contents to the Skyrim Special Edition/Data folder (not the root folder). It should look like: Skyrim Special Edition/Data/interface/skyui/config.txt.

This file is identical to the config.txt present in SkyUI_SE.bsa, apart from my edit to the sorting options, and when installed to your game will override the original file automatically, even if you leave this mod above SkyUI in Mod Organizer 2.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPATIBILITY

Requires SkyUI, which requires SKSE. Will completely override/be overridden by other mods containing config.txt files specific for SkyUI. Unfortunately, due to how this file works, in order to merge changes made to it you must open both files and manually editing them so all desired changes are contained within one file. Fortunately, it's very easy to transpose this file's edit to an existing interface/skyui/config.txt without conflict, and here's how to do so yourself:

  • Open your interface/skyui/config.txt file with any text document editor (Notepad should be fine)
  • Press Ctrl+F on your keyboard, and type in the search columns.valueWeightColumn.hidden
  • Simply remove this line from the text document. Save and exit.

This will work right out of the box with Oldrim and its SkyUI version, just follow the instructions as described. Ditto for Skyrim VR, but I don't own it and there may be more optimized config.txt tweaks for that version elsewhere.

USAGE

If you have the know-how, feel free to use this as a template for your own personalized config.txt and upload to the internet if desired, without credit. There's a plethora of possibilities for editing this file and creating a very personalized set of default settings for SkyUI to cater to your preferences. However, this file is intended just to be a simple tweak for those who want V/W ratio sorting enabled in the beginning of every save, so I have no plans on adding new settings to this file.
