About this mod

Are you tired of getting killed instantly when you're still loading because you use combat mods that make the game faster and more lethal? Do you use overpowered creature mods where enemies one-shot you? No? Well, here is this mod anyway to solve the problem for you. Personally, this was driving me bananas, and I needed this in my game.

Introduction

This mod is designed to protect you from being killed instantly upon loading into the game, it does this by protecting you for a short period of time which can be customized in the MCM menu. The plugin is flagged as an ESP Light and settings will persist through multiple playthroughs due to using MCM Helper.

Installation

First, before installing "Don't Hit Me, I'm loading!". I recommend you consider implementing these skyrim.ini tweaks, as they will drastically reduce your fade to black time post-loading screens.

Remove Loading Fade to Black at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)

After implementing those skyrim.ini tweaks, you may not find this mod to be needed. However, if you still would like to help protect your character further from taking damage upon loading into the game, or if you prefer to keep fade to black, I'd suggest using MO2 to install this mod and its requirements. If you're not sure how to install mods using MO2, I'd recommend watching the following tutorial.

Current Plans

-Make the mod faster by using Skyrim Platform in order to work better in script heavy load orders.
-Add an option to pause the game/freeze NPCs upon load in the MCM
-Find a better, more reliable way to track player cell changes.

FAQ:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why don't you just not save during combat?

A: Skyrim combat is unpredictable, one moment bandits are doing noodle damage to you, the next you're getting one shot by a wolf. While you should try to avoid saving mid combat frequently, there will always be times in a playthrough you have to load in before a fight, and by the time you load in, you've been one shot by that super op wolf.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Won't this make saving mid combat into a super op timed block mod?!

A: Yes, you've discovered my secret motivation for making this mod. In all seriousness, yes, you could save before taking some super powerful attack from a boss to nullify the damage. I've done my best to balance this mod by allowing the user to download different versions best suited to their load order. I recommend picking the option that gives you just enough time to get back into the game, but not overpowered and allowing you to take free extra hits.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Wow! I can save while jumping off mountains and use this to totally nullify fall damage!

A: While you certainly could jump off mountains in game if you like, I cannot recommend doing so without Loki's awesome paraglider mod. That being said, this mod will only nullify damage on load if the player is in combat.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why'd you make this mod?! It sucks!!

A: This is my first official mod and being instantly killed by enemies while loading is something that has always bothered me in Skyrim. If this mod has helped at least one other person, I'm happy. If you don't like the mod, I'm sorry that it hasn't met your expectations. Aside from telling me to alter the fundamental purpose of the mod, I'm more than willing to listen to ideas on how to improve it!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I've discovered an issue.

A: Please report it in the bug's tab!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I have an idea how to improve the mod, can I share it with you?

A: Yes, of course. Infact, please do so!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Can I use more than one version at a time?

A: No, you silly goose. The files will overwrite each other. :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I want the game to pause when I load a save, does this mod do that?

A: No, it doesn't currently do that. However, I've linked a mod below which shows a message box whenever you load a save if you prefer that!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Are there any alternatives to your mod?

A: Yes!

Pause After Loading Screens at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why make this when there is another mod that already does this?

A: I didn't know it existed and I wanted to make a mod.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Does this work with AE?

A: I've only tested this with the 1.3.0 or 1.5.x. version of MCM Helper, but as far as I'm aware, it should work fine. Please let me know if there are any issues.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Known Issues:

The OnCellLoad() event does not accurately fire every time the player travels to previously visited cells in a play session. I'm currently looking into ways to fix this issue for the next version.

Incompatible Mods:

powerofthree's Tweaks at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) - If using this mod's optional
"Disable God Mode" tweak, my mod will likely not function correctly as it relies on this console command for implementation. This tweak is disabled by default, so unless you enable it manually, you should have no issues.

Powerofthree's Disable God Mode tweak should now be compatible as of 1.1 since the mod now sets the player to use ghost status for protection.

If you discover any other incompatible mods, please report them in the comments so I can mention them here!
