About this mod

You are on a mountain and the freezing weather is becoming painful: you drink a potion of Resist Cold... but it does not help. You then cast Flame Cloak, which makes you immune to freezing water, yet it does not help against the cold air! This mod aims to be more immersive or logical, while respecting the Survival Mode game balance.

With this mod, items and potions that offer resistance to Frost damage, will also help resist Cold temperatures (increased Warmth, proportional to the power/magnitude of the item/potion).  This includes the Vampire's Resist Frost.  The Flame Cloak spell and Become Ethereal shout are made more logical in relation to Cold temperatures. 
- This does not change what can heal the penalties from Cold temperature (Hot food, campfires, etc.).  

 
Basics to know (default or vanilla systems that we did not modify) : 

1) In the coldest areas of Skyrim (on mountains mostly), Cold will slowly affect you even if you have very high Warmth rating (over 300 for example).  Therefore, increased Warmth from items/potions with this mod will not make you immune to Cold, but it will slow it down (most items last 1 minute)

2) Warmth, no matter what rating you reach, never removes the penalties from Cold once it affects you (Health reduced, 10% to 40% slower, -30% to -90% Lockpicking and Pickpocketing).  Only heat sources (campfires, forges, etc.) and Hot food removes Cold penalties.  

 
Mod - Effect added to Resist Cold, Resist Frost and of Warmth

- Effects that offer resistance to Frost damage by x%, will also give a Warmth bonus of x+25.  For example, a potion of Resist Cold giving 50% resistance to Frost damage, will also offer 75 Warmth for 60 seconds.  At first glance, this may seem like a lot, but it will only slow down the effects of Cold temperatures. 

THIS INCLUDES : potions of Resist Cold, Ice Wraith Essence, Resist Frost enchantments on items, Necklace of Warmth, Nords' & Vampires' Resist Frost.  Items you enchant yourself should work well also. 
--- You might need to simply re-equip an item to have the extra Warmth. 

- CRAFTED POTIONS of Resist Frost currently offer 50 to 60 Warmth (i.e. crafted potions do not scale exactly like described above).  This includes ingredients from Rare Curios Creation and Fishing Creation (tested with free Anniversary Edition).  Detail: the user-interface for potions will show the effect, but the Fortify Warmth effect will not be indicated on ingredients (as the UI only shows 4 effects per ingredient).

- BECOME ETHEREAL (Shout, 1, 2 or 3 words) : you will be immune to freezing water, like you are immune to everything else, and cold temperatures should not bother you during its short normal duration (very high Warmth).* 

- FLAME CLOAK spell will now also offer 50 Warmth.*   
[ Vanilla details: Flame Cloak is a Destruction, Adept spell, 62 seconds, costing 289 "mana" ]  

* The Warmth bonus from these two do not stack with Hot food (the +25 Warmth from Hot food last longer though and will continue after Become Ethereal or Flame Cloak ends).  Reason: technical limitation whereby only the effect Survival_FoodFortifyWarmth worked with Spells. 

Technical stuff / Compatibility :
a) Of course, Survival Mode is required (tested with the free Anniversary Edition). 
But you can turn Off/On Survival Mode and the game will remain stable nonetheless. 
b) You can install/uninstall without breaking your saved games (tested).  If the mod is disabled, it will simply remove the extra Warmth effect.
c) It is an .esl file (light) and therefore does not count for the maximum mods possible. 

d) This mod does not conflict with other mods, unless they specifically modify the following: 
- Alchemical ingredients that offer Resist Frost 
- "Ingestibles" : ResistFrost25-100, crlceWraithResistFrost25 
- "Object effects" : EnchArmorResistFrost01-06, EnchArmorResistFrostBase 
- "Spells": AbVampire01-04, flameCloak, Survival_abRacialNord [Survival Mode], VoiceBecomeEthereal1. 

  • If you use Apothecary - An Alchemy Overhaul and/or Thaumaturgy - An Enchanting Overhaul, place them further down in the load order, which means that they will have priority (overwrite) this mod.  All those mods and this mod will work, but some things will not receive Warmth. 
  • With Apothecary - An Alchemy Overhaul, ingredients and potions will not give Warmth, but other effects/items covered by "Cold Frost Logic" will work. 
  • With Thaumaturgy - An Enchanting Overhaul, apparels that offer frost damage resistance will not give Warmth, but all the other effects covered by "Cold Frost Logic" will work, such as Vampire's resistance, Flame Cloak, etc. (and potions if you do not also use Apothecary)
  • Sacrosanct - Vampires of Skyrim : the modifications to vampire's passive Resist Frost override each other (with the later in the load order winning), but you can use TheoAllan's patch called Sacrosanct Survival Mode - Vampirism Grants Warmth Bonus.  It uses the same Warmth as "Cold Frost Logic". 
  

Recommended mods !

Survival Mode Settings : allows to adjust the hunger, fatigue, cold and carry weight, and tweaks the penalties.  I personally (not in this mod) used SSEedit to utterly remove the starting Hunger penalties as it is a terrible design (every few minutes, even if you just ate, you are hit with many penalties beyond just less Stamina). 

Survival Control Panel : allows options in relation to Sleep to level up, Arrow/Lockpick weight, Warmth of gear, etc.
