Moonlight Greatsword Projectile

If you use a Moonlight Greatsword mod, this addon will enable you to
unleash a wave of moonlight when you perform a power attack.

Installation/requirements:

  • I recommend using Mod Organizer 2 for installing and managing mods.
  • Precision is optional.

Supported Moonlight Greatsword mods:

True Moonlight Greatsword by Zul
Holy Moonlight Greatsword -Bloodborne by Gryffindor777
Lorkhan Moonlight Greatsword Reborn (archived) by FunkyGandalfCat
Dark Souls Pack by Team TAL (off-site)
Moonlight Greatsword by FrozenNorthModder

If I have missed any Moonlight Greatsword mods, let me know and I'll gladly add support for them.

Overview:

The wave of moonlight deals around 40 damage, similar to Fireball/Ice Storm/Chain Lightning. Any feedback on balance is appreciated.
Using this ability costs magicka (around 120). The adept destruction perk will halve the cost.
You won't see the effect without sufficient magicka.

Version 1.3+ supports Precision; MLGS weapon trails now match the color of the projectile.
(Various MLGS mods come pre-enchanted, giving them a default fiery precision trail. My mod will override this with a turquoise trail.)

For those who use Leviathan Animations - Two-Handed Power Attacks, use my optional file instead of the main file.

ESL flagged.

Q&A
Q: Why isn't the projectile coming out?
A: You need 28 Intelligence You probably don't have enough magicka. Test with the command `player.setav magicka 999`

Q: Can you add support for (some other moonlight greatsword mod)?
A: Yes, it would be my pleasure. Post the link.

Compatibility
  • Made for the latest version of Skyrim on Steam.
  • Best used without MCO.
  • Attack MCO|DXP is finicky. In my experience, it kinda works but kinda doesn't. Many users report that it doesn't work. I'm using MCO in my current playthrough and am exploring this issue. Try this mod instead: Ludwig's Legacy
  • If you use modded power attack animations, there is a chance that vertical power attacks produce a horizontal beam, and vice versa. Try tweaking the DAC-NG config file: SKSE/plugins/_DynamicAnimationCasting/bmMLGSprojectile.toml

Extra Info

If you want to mess with the spells on their own for fun, search for "moonlight wave" in the console.

I used NifSkope to recolor the Bloodskal Blade horizontal/vertical projectiles with the 'illusion light' gradient used by spells such as 'Calm' and 'Pacify'.
Then made some custom spells using the edited projectiles, and used DAC-NG to trigger these spells on specific power attacks.
New forms are prefixed with 'BM' (e.g. BMmlgsExplosion) if you wanna poke around the esp.

Contains no papyrus scripts. Added a tiny script to play the projectile's audio, should have absolutely no negative impact on anything. Read the included source .psc if interested.

The new audio is based on Dark Souls 1 sound effects. I wanted to add a charge-up sound too, triggered by the wind-up of the power attack, but I haven't figured out how to do this yet.

My to-do list:
  • Find a way to prevent the sound effect from playing when power-attacking with insufficient magicka
  • Find a way to play a "wind-up" sound effect when winding up a power attack. Payload interpreter?
  • Find a way to make the weapons only deal magic damage.
  • Make this mod standalone by applying the projectile to any vanilla Silver Greatsword with the Silent Moons enchantment, allowing the player to craft a bootleg MLGS
  • Use Open Animation Replacer to give the MLGS specific power attack animations, allowing compatibility with moveset replacers
  • Get this working flawlessly with MCO
