About this mod

A spell to access your containers from anywhere and support shared storage between multiple containers

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Requires:
UIExtensions
SKSE 64

Purpose

Access any container remotely. Link one (or more) containers to a single remote container.

Enjoy Limitless Inventory
Make a single chest in your home accessible at any time and any place, allowing you to store your excess inventory at home wherever you are in Skyrim. No more having to lug your stuff back or sell it so you can continue adventuring.

Access Multiple Chests Remotely

You can carry several tokens in your inventory, each pointing to a different container, potentially in different parts of Skyrim. Distribute your stuff without having to interrupt your current quest to do so.

Have All Your Stuff Available in All your Player Homes At Once
Pick a chest in one of your player homes as main storage, then in each of your other homes, pick a container to act as a proxy. You no longer have to split your belongings between homes. They are all in one place, accessible from any of your homes.

Fix Sorting Locations for Other Mods

If your stuff is being sorted into one container, and you prefer another, redirect the sorted items to a container of your choosing. ( See videos for example )

Usage

The Token of Transference spell is simple to use. See the steps below.

  • Purchase the Token of Transference Spellbook at Belethor's General Goods and learn the spell.
  • Cast the spell on any container you would like to access remotely. A token will be generated and you will be prompted to name it. Once the name is entered, the token will appear in your inventory with that name.
  • Drop the token into any other container ( renaming the new container if you choose to). The new container is now a proxy for your original container and its inventory. When you interact with the chest containing the token,  you are actually interacting with the original container on which you cast the spell.

Details

Casting the Spell

Pick the container (chest, barrel, etc) that you want to physically contain your inventory. Lock the container in your crosshairs, and cast the spell. A prompt will open asking you to enter a name for the token about to be spawned. Usually, I give it a name that reminds me which chest it points to ( like  "Breezehome Kitchen Token" or "Breezehome Bedroom Token").  That's important because you could be carrying many tokens and you want to know which containers they are connected to when you view them in your inventory.

You can use the spell to spawn more than one token for a container. The spawning container has a one-to-many relationship with proxy containers. A typical use case for spawning multiple tokens for a single container is one where you own multiple player homes. Pick any container you like to be your central storage. Hit it with the spell once for each house to produce enough tokens. Place the tokens in containers in your other homes. You have now shared your inventory and it is accessible from any of your homes.

A WORD OF CAUTION!!  Cast the spell ONLY on safe containers, like player house chests. Otherwise, your contents will go missing when the game resets the container after you have been away for seven(?) days.  As for tokens, you can drop them into any container, even ones that respawn. The tokens convert them to pass-throughs, so it's as though their inventory no longer exists. The reset won't delete the token.

Using the Token ( Part A)

Once you have a token in your inventory, you can use it to access the container that produced it, even if you are on the far side of Skyrim. When you want to access the spawning container, all you have to do is drop its token on the ground. An ethereal chest will spawn in front of you. Access this chest to add or remove inventory from the remote chest. When you close the inventory menu, the ghostly chest will dissolve away and your token will be returned to your inventory for future use.

Using the Token ( Part B)

You can also drop a token into any container you encounter as long as the container is not already in use by a quest. ( An error message is shown in that case and your token is returned. )  Assuming the token drop is allowed, you will be presented with a prompt to change the new container's name if you so choose. This is useful because you might want to personalize the container to identify what it points to.  Once the name prompt is closed,  the new container is now a proxy for the container that spawned the token. Opening the newly tokenized container will allow you to manipulate the contents of the remote container just as though it was in front of you.

Retrieving a Token (Reseting a Container)

Spawning Container
You cannot reset a spawning container back to its state before the spell was cast.  This is because any tokens spawned by it have a reference to it. If you were able to un-enchant the spawning container, then any tokens produced by that container would instantly hold useless references. So choose wisely when casting Token of Transference. You are making a permanent change ( unless you choose to uninstall the mod. More about that later.)

Token Container
The case for proxy containers ( the ones with tokens in them) is a little different. They can be reset by approaching the container unarmed and striking it with your fist. You will be prompted to give the container a new name since the name you gave it when you dropped in the token may no longer be appropriate. After the name prompt closes, the token will be returned to your inventory, and the container that held it returned to its normal state. The token will still be active and pointing toward its spawning container so can be reused as needed.

Installation and Uninstallation

Installation is typical. Just youse your mod tool. A mid-game installation is fine. If you should decide to uninstall mid-game, I am going to ask you to reconsider. Some stuff will remain baked into your save game. If you choose to do it anyway, then you MUST go to Belethor's Goods and buy the Spellbook "Destroy Tokens of Transference".  It's a non-targeted spell, so just cast it. It reset all the containers you have modified with the transference spell or tokens, returning them to their original state. All tokens will be destroyed, all aliases removed, and the two spells associated with the mod forgotten.  Save your game at this point, then disable the mod.

Limitations

There is a hard limit of fifty tokens that can be created by the spell. For now, there are multiple reasons for the limit, although it is possible that it could be revised in the future.
