This is a guide on how to use my template. It uses Adobe Illustrator since that program has artboards, and is thus good for copy-pasting details to multiple pictures at a time. Anyone new to Illustrator who just happens to have it, I recommend looking up a basic tutorial about layers and artboards if some of this doesn't make any sense.

1) Artboards
If you want the list of artboards, go to Window > Artboard.
The template has a separate artboard for each sprite in a seasonal/indoor and outdoor/basic expressions portrait build. I've labelled which one is intended as which both in their artboard names and around them on the layout.
They're all in sets of five - intended to be default face, happy, angry, sad and blush in that order.
I've then clustered the pictures by season, then indoor and outdoor. Then on the right, there's a bunch of everyday ones (pajamas, mining, etc).
Below that are the vanilla festivals. Then below that are the modded festivals, including some not actually in the mod, just in case.
((Disclaimer: I don't know if they'll be added or even need costumes, I have no part in the mod itself, I just wanted to minimize later updates.))
The artboards are all 256x256, the bigger size that the Jazzybee portrait maker exports at. (If you want a smaller size, I believe during the export process there's one that'll scale them down.)
The backgrounds are transparent once exported as pngs.
I've named each artboard in the following fashion: 001SPRSI_portrait_indoors, 002_SPRSI_portrait_happy_indoors, etc.
The convention is 'the number of the artboard, the season (or festival) and if applicable, the weather and whether it's indoor or outdoor. Followed by the file name.
So the first is 'Artboard 001, Spring, Sun, Indoors.' then portrait_indoors is the name of the actual file once its in the mod files.
They're labelled this way so they can be exported as a big batch, dropped into their respective folders, and have
everything before 'portrait' removed. It's work to rename them, but the other option was about 30 different 'portrait_happy' files with numbers on the end. I felt this was clearer.

2) The Layers
Layers are found on the right of the screen, if you don't see them go up to Window > Layers to turn that on.
There's several layers in the empty folder, which I've made as an example of what I use the template for. From bottom to top layers:
LABELS (leave locked):
This one just provided some text on the file so that you can tell easier which file is which, without having to go into the artboards list. Leave it locked. (It's using the default font but if you don't have the default font just follow the prompt and replace it with anything.)
BASE ARTWORK Y1
This one is for the basic sprites, the ones you probably made with the generator. I've attached a Y1 to the end because I want to alter my farmer's sprites based on the year, and so I would make a BASE ARTWORK Y2 after that, and etc.
tweaks - clothes
This is for adding clothing details to the sprites. As an example, I wanted a red scarf on my character, but I couldn't have that and overalls in the generator because they both qualify as 'Tops.' So I use this to paste the scarf onto my sprite-with-overalls so that I can have both.
tweaks - expression
For those using expressions, on this layer I make tiny pixel changes so that my character can have expressions without solely relying on the generator.
tweaks - features
Freckles, scars, whatever.
tweaks - injuries
In case you want to keep some injuries on hand to turn on and off for your character after a rough day in the mines or something.
These tweaks are largely examples, if you don't want to use a layer just delete it and add more if you want them.
Your two options for editing are either importing 256x256 files that are just the pixel changes (which is what I do for big things like scarfs) or using the rectangle tool or similar within Illustrator itself to make changes (which I do for little ones like expressions). Note: Illustrator is a vector program and so doesn't do pixels so much, so I use the rectangle tool to emulate pixelation. (But I'm not a spriter or that great with Illustrator so do what feels right.)

3) Exporting
- Go to File → Export → Export for Screens.
- Remain in the Artboards tab (I don't know anything about the assets one). You should see all your Artboards listed. Either export them all, if you're making a huge batch,
or only tick the ones you want (if you're only altering, say, a festival or one season.)
- Once you have a folder designated for export, have made sure PNG is selected (and it should be by default), and that the ones you want exported are selected,
select Export Artboard.
(You can also add extra options for scaling: by default it's just the 1x scaling, which will export at 256x256 per file. But this is what you'd want to use to
export tinier versions. Export at a 0.25 size and it should make them tiny.)

Again huge shoutout to AmateurJack for creating this!! they are awesome <3
