Review Legend of Hero Tonma (Virtual Console / TurboGrafx-16)
Fight your way through seven stages using Tonma's jump ability and shot power.
What happens when you cross Ninja Spirit and a shoot 'em up? This. Unsurprisingly, it's a game by Irem, who made both Ninja Spirit and quite a few shoot 'em ups! Also not surprising is that it’s a port of the arcade game of the same name; again, just like Ninja Spirit!...

Wulverblade! Flame in the Flood! 88 Heroes! Yono! Much more!
It’s Nintendo Download Update time and we have another busy week to enjoy in North America. The Switch eShop has a bumper line-up to consider, of course, though the Wii U and 3DS don’t miss out entirely; the little handheld even has a big-time RPG from Atlus that's out soon. There’s...

News Four Turbografx-16 Games Return to the Wii Virtual Console in PAL Territories
A rather pleasant surprise
The Wii Virtual Console was not only the first of its kind on Nintendo hardware, but it had terrific diversity in the platforms and games that it offered; we'll have to see how far the Wii U Virtual Console progresses on those terms. One of the platforms that was supported, giving excellent opportunities to those that...
About The Game
Legend of Hero Tonma is an action game that puts players in control of the magic-user Tonma, whose role - as was typical for game heroes of the day - is to travel to another world and save the princess. Fight your way through seven stages using Tonma's jump ability and shot power.
Collect power-ups and barriers to grow in strength and pummel your enemies. Bring that strength to the end of each stage to face off against and defeat the menacing bosses that aim to keep you from the princess. This well-detailed game's comic visuals and feel will have players wanting to come back for more frantic and exciting action.

Wow, plenty if variety in the music I see XD
Looks alright, nothing I'd consider getting though.
Hope this gets an EU release I remember the arcade version was very nice if quite hard.
In many ways by looking at the preview, this game reminds me of the 1980 classic Karnov. I'm not sure I would consider getting this game but it looks interesting...
I also make hate on random nether yells.
To be picky, looks more like a Platformer primariliy, no?
Excellent "Ghouls 'N' Ghosts" type of arcade platform game - Remember it well from the game arcades as a kid. Nice to see the PC Engine version on the Wii VC.
If you like arcade platform games like Ghosts & Goblins, Wardner, 3 Wonders and the the like - check it out, a hidden gem!
Wow, I'll never get a game based on your reviews again. While I did end up enjoying this, it's almost nothing like Ninja Spirit. The only things they have in common, gameplay-wise, is that both are action platformers with run-and-gun elements, both have lots of enemies, and both feature upgradeable weapons. Saying this is just like Ninja Spirit is like saying Gunstar Heroes is just like Alien Soldier.
One comment on the game itself: playing this game with the Classic Controller or Wiimote is much more difficult than playing with the GCN controller, as with the GCN one can easily access both the jump button and the auto-fire button. Too bad you have to use the tiny d-pad or the analog stick, though. I'd guess that of all controllers available, the Hori Gameboy Player controller would be the best for this game, if you can actually get one for a reasonable price. Oh, how I dream of a re-release of that fantastic controller...
Just an update to say that the new Thrustmaster T-Wireless will also work well with this game, as you can remap the buttons.
This is one tough cookie. Streaky control hurts it as it has a lot of potential that isn't realized.
Good point about the control options. The button placement is awkward in the extreme with the CC due to the jump and rapid fire buttons being so far apart. Thankfully i have two Hori pads!
I also agree that I don't see where the Ninja Spirit comparison comes from. The games arn't alike at all in my eyes.
