Respawn's Apex Legends, to our minds one of the very best free-to-play Battle Royale shooters currently available on PC or console, finally makes its way to Nintendo Switch and it is, unfortunately, a real mixed bag of a port. This is at its core the same fast-paced, ping-tastic game we've been enjoying since 2019, but here the concessions made in order to make it playable – the overall loss of graphical fidelity, framerate dips, blurriness, unrefined controls and so on – result in an experience that feels heavily compromised and one you should definitely try for yourself before shelling out cash on any of the paid versions or battle passes currently on offer.
Panic Button, a team that has done such stellar work in the past porting the likes of Doom, Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to Nintendo's console, has handed in an effort here that, despite its problems, doesn't feel lazy or half-hearted – this is the full-fat Apex Legends experience delivered onto Switch in a reasonably playable state. It's just that the seemingly necessary downgrades that have been made in the face of the limitations of the system itself, when combined with a handful of niggling performance issues, make for an experience we could only truly recommend if you really don't have any other way of playing the game.
In docked mode, Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch is presented at 720p and plays, for the most part, at a reasonably solid 30fps which, on paper, sounds fine; we weren't for a second expecting a higher resolution or for this type of fast-paced shooter to arrive here with its guns blazing at 60fps. However, in actual practice, what we've got is a game that looks disappointingly muddy and blurred when played on a big screen, with messy textures loading in all over the shop as you move around its environments and distant geometry and enemies hard to parse as you scan your surroundings for threats, loot or vantage points.
In handheld, where the game is presented at 572p, the visuals fare slightly better with the smaller screen hiding a multitude of graphical shortcomings and giving everything a crisper, cleaner feel. However, it's also here where this port's framerate problems really begin to rear their head, most especially when combat gets close-ranged and frantic – as it so often does in Apex Legends – resulting in a level of jankiness that can make firefights feel like a hit-and-hope mess rather than the slick, refined and highly tactical engagements for which this game is best known. The field of view, which quite understandably cannot be altered in this version for performance reasons, also feels restrictive when playing on such a small screen and, when combined with those muddy textures, framerate niggles and controls that feel a tad spongy when playing with the console's default Joy-Con, results in a rather headache-inducing experience when played for any reasonable amount of time.
Those framerate issues during close-range combat aren't entirely exclusive to handheld mode either, unfortunately. We experienced dips down to around the mid-twenties when things got really heated during docked play, and situations where you're trying to revive teammates whilst under fire or engaging in melee combat with opponents tend to feel and look janky and rough. The technical shortcomings really do create constant niggling problems with regards to the game's combat. On the one hand, long-range engagements are hampered by a graphical downgrade that makes far-off enemies quite hard to see and controls that – even with gyro-aiming enabled – don't feel particularly reliable at distance unless you've invested in a Pro Controller or perhaps some Hori split Joy-Cons for handheld play. On the other, close encounters introduce a level of stuttering that really takes the shine off things, with exciting and dramatic clashes rendered clunky and oftentimes infuriating.
Having said all of that, the strength of Apex Legends' excellent core gameplay does still, somehow, manage to shine through at times. There's fun to be had here if you can adjust your expectations and make do; it's just fun that, as things currently stand, feels unreliable and more than a little compromised. All of the updates, tweaks, new characters, battle passes, timed events and change-ups you'll find in other versions of the game are present and correct here and, if Panic Button can somehow iron out the framerate issues and provide a patch or two to deal with a few graphical issues, this port could perhaps still deliver as a passable version of one of our absolute favourite Battle Royale games.
In the meantime, however, one thing we suggest you do immediately if you are in it for the long-haul with Apex Legends on Switch is to jump right into the game's settings and turn off cross-play with other platforms. You'll most likely be in for a slightly longer wait between matches, for sure, but this does away with so much of the frustration of being absolutely out-gunned by teams of players who are hunting you down at 4K/60FPS – not the most level of playing fields, we're sure you'll agree. Control-wise, too, if you have a Switch Pro Controller or Hori Split Pad Pro, get them hooked up right away as the default Joy-Con really don't feel like they're up to the task here, even with gyroscopic aiming enabled.
Overall then, Apex Legends on Switch is a real mixed bag as things currently stand. This is an excellent game that's still fun to play – even in this heavily compromised state – but there's just no getting away from the issues introduced by framerate problems, muddy textures, blurriness, underwhelming default controls and just a general level of technical jankiness that eats away at your enjoyment over time. Of course, it's free-to-play – although it will cost you 25GB of your precious internal storage – so there's no harm in having a go and seeing how your tolerance levels fare. However, we'd recommend you stick to running-and-gunning through King's Canyon on another platform, unless we have absolutely no other choice.
Conclusion
Apex Legends on Switch delivers the full-fat Battle Royale experience we know and love in a heavily compromised state. There's still fun to be had here if you can lower your expectations but, over time, the massive graphical downgrade and niggling framerate and performance issues begin to grate. If you've got no other choice but to play on Switch we'd recommend diving in and seeing how you fare before splashing any cash on paid versions or battle passes but, overall, this is a game that is best experienced on other platforms – at least until Panic Button can steady the ship somewhat with future updates.

Real talk, was anyone here actually excited for this? I thought the game was basically forgotten about.
If this is FTP that is a pass. These games are scourge on the industry.
Oof! Ouch!
I'll still give it a go...
BREAKING: A Nintendo Switch port of a graphically intensive current gen multiplat game specifically focused on multiplayer and precise gameplay is compromised by the Switch being the Switch
In other news water is wet. More at 11
@Kalmaro Apex still has a pretty large community on other platforms. It's probably the best "trendy" game I had played before dipping my toes into Fall Guys
I guess everyone has their limits. Everyone keeps expecting Panic Button to do Switch ports so a dud was going to pop up at some point or another.
nah. tried for 2 matches. just no.
Whaaaat ?
I don't like fps gams but yesterday i play it a i like it i was playing on handheld ...
But I thought the Switch was more than powerful enough and Panic Button are masters and we dont need PS4 or PS5??
@gojiguy yes i also don't need them
Slightly harsh. Played a couple of games over 2 days and had pretty much zero issue while in a fight. There have been some frame rate drops while nothing is happening though. Already won a game, I had 3 kills, and with crossplay on too. Had fun with it so far! Spotting enemies at distance handheld is almost impossible. I have no idea where to land though, the map is mush when jumping. Don't get the complaints about controls, and there are so many options to tweak them. Plus the HD rumble is nice. And the gun sounds are meaty, even through the ting switch speakers. Room to improve, but enjoyable. 6.5/10
So my expectations for this game matches reality.
It's cool that this is on Switch, but if you have another way to play this game, go do that.
Downloaded and will give it a go for a few matches, but I don't think this was ever going to be long lasting on the Switch anyway
@TheFrenchiestFry Really now? I didn't know, I've been kinda out of the loop i guess.
Well, I hope folks enjoy it on Switch, though sounds like it will be harder.
I mean it is on a switch idk people were thinking it was going to look like a freaken Next gen, but all it needs is a little more time in the oven even tho they push it back a whole year, just some tuning here and there and boom you got a great port.
5/10 is harsh. I see you're point, but is it really a surprise that the switch version is compromised?
Edit: Dammit, I meant your not you're.
I think this way better then a five. That said I deleted it after two games. I forgot the reason I never got into it is you cannot always play your favorite character. I do not have time to play anyone else.
@TheFrenchiestFry I mean honestly, Apex is a joke on all platforms. It's just about the most hacked game out there and it's utterly pointless to even attempt ranking in it when you're guaranteed to face cheaters half the time.
I guess you could say, this game is not at its apex on the Switch.
@HotGoomba 5/10 is average, I think that's a fair summation.
Never played before but enjoying it for sure. Takes a while to learn and get a hang of it, and playing in handheld is a must for the graphics, but it’s fun, it’s free, and it is running super smooth here.
I’ll give it a 7/10.
Would have liked more characters at launch
I’m starting to feel like this game is falling to a scrutiny like it’s a beacon of everyone getting obnoxious with their “you see, we need Switch Pro!” takes.
I’d argue Fortnite or Doom has the same amount of problems, yet when they came out everyone was praising the ports. We get practically identical port job with Apex 3 years later and it’s suddenly unacceptable and bad and 30fps with drops is bad and textures are muddy? Uhhh, hello, that’s every big game ported on Switch guys lol
Another sub-par Panic Button conversion. Maybe another team would have done a better, cleaner job.
Activision’s ports were decent. Overwatch’s conversion by Iron Galaxy was borderline but it was definitely better than this.
I was looking forward to it since I have over 2000hours in Overwatch and could do for some variety. But it was just too muddy. I don't care that much about graphics, but I prefer them to be clean and not looking like a downscaled mess.
Example of that very specific point of view: For me personally Turok 2 looks better than Apex Legends in that regard.
Well, back in the D.VA cockpit then.
@CheapCheepBeach Panic Button was probably not used to the Source Engine. They were so used to ID tech from Bethesda with DOOM and Wolfenstein games. This is a first for them.
Also I feel like maybe Respawn or EA or someone wanted to get the port out asap, so it got rushed because of that
@Itachi2099 facts. And I agreed.
Tbh, Apex Legends isn't exactly the best on Xbox and PS. Sure, the graphics are better and its not as blurry but it also has framerate issues as well. And a lot of cheating from PC players too
@CheapCheepBeach I think the way Activision did it with Crash is the way to go. Don't downscale it with some tool and make it messy. Instead put cleaner low detail stuff in there.
I mean, that is easy to say but a massive task to do. I understand why that is not the norm. But I am especially tired of the bad Unreal Engine ports. Whenever I see that logo, I immediately get a bad feeling. (Even though there are amazing Unreal Engine ports available. Like Hellblade.)
And I think Overwatch did a great job with the look. But I guess it was also a bit easier since the whole vibe is more comic.
@TimboSlice well u gotta unlock them. That is how everyone starts apex. You could just get the Champions Edition.
Overall I rate the port as 6.5/10. It is a bit blurry and some issues with graphics but it is playable and is mostly at a smooth 30 FPS. But the game did crash on me one time, so I had to restart my switch. So I hope Panic Button fixes this eventually
@HotGoomba and EA is now like "SeE thIS wHY wE doN'T pUT gaMES on NS".
I can understand why EA didn't port the Frostbite version of FIFA to switch because it could compromise the version. Also even if there is to be Frostbite version of FIFA for switch, it won't happen because EA feels like it is a downgrade.
From 60 FPS to 30 FPS. I don't think EA wants that.
So I understand why EA would do legacy editions. I expect another one to be this year as well.
I honestly thought the port was ok. I still need to get used to the controls.
@anoyonmus I honestly agree on the Legacy opinion. Rather make a good running and looking Legacy-eske edition then a messy 1:1 port.
I would be totally ok if MLB The Show would do that tbh.
Thank god I avoid this type of game
Honestly, it isn't that bad. I think people should stop slating it and actually praise that Apex is on switch! Be honest, few years back you would never have thought a game like Apex, a online multiplayer shooter that is the exact same game as its rivals, would be on the switch. Huge praise goes out to panic button for even getting this running in the first place. Also, I can name a dozen games that look far worse than this.
@anoyonmus I wish EA would just make a ultimate team game on switch. Make it free for everyone with the same modes as it's current gen counter parts. Let's be honest, people would play FIFA more if they didn't have to fork out £50 for the same game every year.
I am gonna archive Apex on my switch until they patched things up.
Also I need to try out the new MH Rise demo soon
@PushMyGran1986 SO TRUE.
Apex is a decent port but they should iron out some issues on it. Then it would pretty good.
@Yanina well Apex wasn't bad on switch but I agree that they should fix some issues on it and improve it.
As for Legacy editions, I would be fine with it if it wasn't 50 dollars.
Still cheaper than the PS4 and Xbox One versions tho
@anoyonmus Except Frostbite is now ported to Switch with the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition.
So maybe there is hope depending on the game performs on Switch.
@PushMyGran1986 but people do.
I might pick up FIFA 22 LE tbh. I just hope they add World Cup mode of the legacy edition.
Some games just shouldn’t be on this system. And I think most of those games already aren’t. Nintendo, you gotta step up your hardware game, so that when people get ambitious you aren’t gimping their development efforts.
@GamingFan4Lyf My guy.
Just because Frostbite is on switch, doesn't mean we will see full versions of FIFA and Madden on switch.
Those have realistic graphics while PVZ is animated. Also we don't even know how PVZ looks like yet on switch
So I think we will see more animated visuals from EA games like PVZ or maybe Sims (even tho it doesn't use frostbite)
@PushMyGran1986 Yeah that is the main thing. If they would just call it FIFA SW or something and sell the yearly rosters as a DLC, everybody would be cool about it and even compliment that they did a specific Switch version that runs and look good as it is.
But selling it every year under the same name as the other versions is a problem.
@BloodNinja they tried at least. Let's hope Panic Button improves on the switch version of Apex.
ALSO
WHERE IS YOUR "NINJA... APPROVED OR DISAPPROVED"
PLZ
I NEED IT
@Yanina yeah same name is a problem.
Just hope EA updates at least FUT and adds World Cup on it.
People always complain that the switch version of FIFA isn't the same as others. And that is true.
BUT
Everyone always overlooks the fact that FIFA on switch looks really good
@anoyonmus Eh, I don’t need to use it on every post. It’s nice that they tried, would have been nicer if they let it bake in the oven longer.
I really wish they would dramatically reduce the character models for taxing games NOT make them blurry!
I have it downloaded but haven't tried it yet. I have a friend who loves it on other platforms and I don't have any other way to play it, so as long as it's fun I don't super mind the performance issues.
Kinda harsh really. Also I expect they will potentially patch the game to improve the flaws in future
@BloodNinja Plz. I love it when you say that.
I feel like Respawn or EA might have rushed development for the switch version. Don't worry, they will patch things up eventually
Not too surprising because its EA
Unless a dev is willing to rebuild a game from the ground up on Switch then some games will just not really be possible or end up being a technical mess. Just downscaling things doesn't always work regardless of how good Panic Button et al are.
Having said that Crash 4 looks to be a pretty excellent port based on the DF video but I imagine Switch was also in their mind throughout development of that game.
@TheFullAndy true. At least they tried and hopefully they patch things up.
Fortnite and DOOM 2016 on switch weren't exactly perfect too.
Apex has its own share of problems on xbox one and ps4 too as well
@TheFullAndy As far as I understood it, they did some specific rebuild for Crash.
@anoyonmus
If someone is a Switch only owner it is great the option is there.
I haven't tried it before on my PS4 Pro but strangely enough I want to now download it on Switch to see if it is that bad.
The Doom 2016 port was excellent, completed it on Switch before getting it on PS4 for the 60fps but the Switch version holds a special place in my heart.
@anoyonmus I mean, it's possible. Just because a game has an "animated" look, doesn't mean that it's light on the graphics pipeline, either.
Textures and shading technique make a game animated or realistic. Some of the character models in Plants vs Zombies are rather complex - even more complex than a football player (American football or otherwise).
Will it happen? Who knows? But it does pave the way for possibilities.

@anoyonmus it was already delayed 6 months, I take it this is as good as they could get it to run.
I just wish Developers would spend time working on new games that runs well on the hardware, instead of trying to cash in on the ports that can never catch up with how they perform elsewhere.
@Yanina
That may be why then.
It isn't quite the 1080p docked/720p handheld resolution the devs promised but it certainly still looks very good for the hardware it is on.
Did anyone expect anything else? There's only so much clever programming is going to do to mitigate the lack of resources on Switch compared to the other platforms
@anoyonmus I prefer the gameplay on FIFA 19 to the latest FIFA's. Hence why I bought 21 on switch for cheap. The gameplay is sluggish on PS4 and the defending nonsense, don't get me started.
@Mr-Fuggles777 not the graphics but the framerate issues they can fix.
Also I heard of this one video from Youtube that he will say the settings to make the switch version better
@TheFrenchiestFry don’t you mean “MK11”? 😏
@GamingFan4Lyf you should probably read what I said above.
EA doesn't want to compromise it
@anoyonmus I don't see the point patching it when it's still going to run at 30FPS. I would think that if Panic Button could have got it stable they would have before release.
@PushMyGran1986 hmm
@SeantheDon29 MK11 is definitely a super pixelated game on the Switch. It does actually look ok everywhere outside the Crypt
The Crypt took a MASSIVE hit though. Looks like a Dreamcast game
@TheFrenchiestFry MK11 is alright on switch. They did improve the graphics overtime tho. But yeah the Crypt is terrible
@anoyonmus I hope for the folks that want this it gets patched.
NINJA APPROVED
They should have ported the single player portion of Titanfall 2 instead of this.
I was really excited about it. And, while it's downloading, I still am.
@GamingFan4Lyf
Exactly. People crack me up with that "bu-bu-but that's realistic & that's a cartoon/animated"like it's always that 1:1 or simple lol.
Oh damn i never expected this to happen.
A current gen game running poorly on 5 year old hardware, that's totally unexpected.......
I tried playing roco and apex back to back on switch handheld and i personally believe apex port needs one or two lessons from roco. Thats how a shooter game should look in handheld, i used to play cod mobile alot handheld and this version of apex on switch is not playable handheld . Better they release apex mobile on switch that wil be more exciting than this to be honest
For me gyro aiming doesnt even work. I have verticle but not horizontal aiming - I've seen some posts on reddit about the same, this needs fixing for me to be able to play
About the only battle royale game I really like is Tetris 99. I'm horrible at these FPS ones. I tried Fortnite once and was awful. I'm ok when it's a one player campaign mode, but put me in an arena with others and I'm just horrible.
I guess it's good that Switch only owners who enjoy these types of games have the option, or if you want to play it portability, it's now an option, but it also highlights why a more powerful Switch would be a good thing.
@Itachi2099 LOL You took the words right out of my mouth!
Ambitious. Just wait for the revision to come. At this point publishers and developers just need to wait.
@TheFrenchiestFry Um ACTCHUALLY, WATER IS NOT WET, WATER MAKES THINGS WET 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
No one in their right mind would play this with joycons. Wouldn’t this be the exact same complaint for any precision based game?
@Mr-Fuggles777 framerate isn't the only issue. There are also bugs in there as well. give it time.
they will probably patch it up
@Razer well, its not bad but there is room for improvement.
Apex has issues on Xbox, and PS as well. Unlike other versions, you can turn off crossplay in this version
@kingbk a powerful switch would be nice but at the same time, I really don't want any exclusive games on the powerful revision
Absolutely pathetic. One would think that a company like EA could afford to pump out a decent product. They just make the conscious decision not to. And they get rewarded time and time again.
I played a bit of this yesterday. Frame rate and resolution were both rough, but that's nothing compared to how bad this game handles gyro aiming when playing in handheld mode.
@Yanina and overwatch is so much better in terms of visual and performance (at least in handheld, dont know docked)
I expected the 8 gig "ready to play" potatoe textured xbox one version running at 30fps. I think PB was a little too ambitious. It simply doesn't play like any version of Apex, partly due to joy cons. Even with the pro pad i had to tweak the settings to get it in the ball park of other versions. Glad they tried but that was the fastest i have uninstalled a game since GR Breakpoint. A real shame.
I got the champion edition and no regrets I knew what I was getting and I still find it very enjoyable.
This is a let-down from Panic Button. Not so much for me, as my interest in the game is only because my friend likes it. It's just not my kind of game. I don't like the F2P aspect for starters. But more so, competitive multiplayer shooters, much like competitive multiplayer fighting games, just don't hold my interest for very long.
Haven't tried to play it on the Switch yet, but this review is about what I expected from a such a port. Gonna have to try it for myself this weekend!
@Kalmaro I am. I really like Apex Legends. Knew the Switch port wouldn't be flawless, but I still like having the option.
I need to lookup the score for ARK Survival Evolved. I am glad EA and Respawn brought it to switch. I hope Battle for Neighborville fares better.
I have to say, this port is great and the graphics has not taken that a "huge hit", its no bigger hit than other current-gen ports like DOOM or Witcher 3.
Idk I'm having fun with it.
I can see it now...
EA: releases crap ports, then notices no one buying their games on Switch. Gives up on supporting the console because no one plays it.
I might have to break down and download this just to see. I feel like I am hearing a lot of the same things I heard about The Outer Worlds and after a patch, it was a perfectly playable game for me.
@Joeynator3000 idk man. NFS HP remastered was pretty good on switch and it did sell well on the platform too. It was on eshop's best sellers for a while
@nintendolife

Translate this. It says there is a listing for Madden coming to switch.

"absolutely out-gunned by teams of players who are hunting you down at 4K/60FPS"
Nope, the fanboys here can keep that cross-play setting on, since they keep insisting that 30fps is perfectly fine 🙄
All console players are handicapped anyway. The fastest way to play first-person shooters is still keyboard and mouse.
I just started Immortals Fenix Rising today on Switch. Have no idea how it compares to other platforms but it runs smooth and is perfectly playable. Whatever compromises were made didn't affect the playability of the game. If the compromises impact playability, then maybe the game shouldn't be on the Switch platform. I love Apex but I can't imagine playing it without the ability to spot enemies at distance. I can live with 30 fps as I lived through the PSOne and N64 era, but I can't live with a game not playable as it was originally intended.
I've never really gotten into and tried out this type of game, but I had heard a lot about Panic Button making great efforts on Switch ports, and wanted to give it a try and see.
I've been happy with it. I don't have other consoles. Don't compare it to other consoles. It reminds me of The Hunger Games, just in video game form. If you haven't read The Hunger Games, I would suggest giving those a read, and if you enjoyed those, you might enjoy this as well.
It takes a while to learn the ins/outs of the gameplay, but eventually, after a few thousand matches, you will probably get a kill. But, you can win matches with your team, and you might not even get a kill during the match. It's pretty cool.
How long did the reviewer play this, before copying/pasting what every other Switch "review" had already said? Also, is it a massive downgrade, if you only have a Switch? No, it's a Switch game, with good graphics.
Are there issues? Sure. But saying the graphics are a massive downgrade, when the system doesn't even have the game, would be like saying getting a 1995 Toyota Corolla would be a downgrade over walking? It doesn't make sense to even compare it, does it? The game wasn't on the system, so what game on the Switch are you comparing it to, graphically, that this is a major downgrade on?
Oh, and I don't like EA, and won't buy their games. I got this, again, to see what Panic Button was able to do. It runs well enough that I've had some fun matches, after learning how to play it. Yes, you need to learn how to play it. Have had some weird issues where I'll be in a game, and it completely crashes me out to the Switch main menu, open it back up, join a game, and it puts me right back in the same game on the same team, which I thought was interesting.
This review reads of a copy/paste like every other YouTube video made after playing the game for 10 minutes.
Tell Switch owners about the game, and what they can expect. Does that make it enjoyable? Are the classes really well done? Does it require teamwork? Can you go solo? What about voice chat?
@FredsBodyDouble From what I've played, you can spot enemies clear across the map. They don't pop-in, that's only some things in the environment, like maybe bushes/trees, but the enemies can be spotted pretty easily from my playtimes in the matches so far.
i always expected it to be compromised but there are a lot of issues that need to be fixed, i dont mind 30fps too much but the game dips framerate dramatically and the ui glitches out a lot, a lot of more demanding games look blurry like this port however this game requires you to pay attention to enemies at great distance unlike something like doom or xenoblade. it's still fun to play and i think we'll see noticeable improvements overtime. its another game that makes me hope the switch pro rumors are true
this is what most people thought it would be. perfectly fine way to play but not good if you are in the competitave scene
@Kalmaro
To be honest, I was. I can never get comfortable playing at my computer, and I've never owned an XBox or Playstation.
So I've enjoyed every game I've owned on pc and switch better on switch (save vr games, but I don't generally play those sitting at my pc, anyways).
So, admittedly, given how much I've enjoyed apex legends previously, I was excited for a panic button ported switch version.
@Darlinfan your opinion is crap.
@Darlinfan "You know, the 99.9% of the active player base who aren't playing on Switch. You're playing with them. How the Switch version runs in comparison is the entire point."
You're not if you turn off cross-play, so it's not the entire point. If you turn off cross-play, as the review says to do, and multiple YouTube videos (which, funnily enough, one "review" on YouTube said to do this exact thing on launch night, then the same night they were playing with cross-play on when they were streaming it), then you're playing against Switch only owners.
How it runs on the Switch only at that point, would be all that matters? Or, maybe, what might matter more would be is the game fun, even with some graphical issues and slowdown at times (maybe like the Doom ports?), and what does it offer compared to other free-to-play games on the Switch like it?
But, on this topic of cross-play. Last night I played multiple matches, no problem, with only other Switch owners. Even this afternoon, same thing, was finding matches with Switch only players, no problem. Then, in the early hours of the morning after playing last night, the matches were taking a bit more time to connect, so I turned on cross-play, and basically was immediately put into other matches with that option on.
The biggest difference with cross-play on? It seemed to have more lag issues, but those seemed to be server side things, which would make some sense since it was cross-platform and not platform specific?
As I mentioned in the previous comment, I have had some disconnect issues, where it closes me back to the Switch's home menu, but I am enjoying learning (and trying to remember to use) the different specials with the characters. Been killed quite a few times, fully charged up, specials just sitting a button press (or, two) away, completely forgetting about them.
For the first time, I'll stop defending Switch ports from Panic Button. This game did not do as well as they claimed. Everything in this review is exactly what I experienced.
In my eyes, this is the first REAL sign that the Switch needs a hardware revision. Any other port had mistakes that probably could've been avoided had they had a different developer or direction.
As it stands, Apex Legends is probably the worst "good" Switch port I've played.
Well this doesn't bode well for Valheim on Switch. Hopefully, it comes to one of the other consoles.
It's an EA game on the Switch, was anyone really expecting it to be good?
@Kalmaro Apex is quite popular on the platforms it works as intended on - PC, PS4/PS5, and the Xbox Series consoles. Still very consistently played and streamed and viewed on YouTube, Twitch, etc. It's a really good game that unfortunately has not translated very well to Switch. But yeah, still very much alive and honestly thriving and loyal community
@Sanjithechef It's good to know that the community is still alive and well!
I'm always worried about online games like this since they live and die by how popular the games are.
There’s a really good alternate reality where this walk a giant map around until you get sniped or walk around until you get lucky and shot a dude from behind until you get sniped genre didn’t happen and instead fast paced arena shooters became huge again as seemed be the trajectory for our timeline in 2016, now new arena shooters can’t happen unless they have have at least a dozen marketable cosplay bait characters and gameplay based around cooldown abilities rather than using and swapping between a set of unique weapons efficiently.
I think Apex Legends will be the hot ticket on Switch for now as players want a more recent shooter. The graphics are a bummer as it makes it hard, unlike in Fortnite, to see your target early less your have Blood Hound in the group. The latter can be an outcome of needing more map variation. It will be interesting to see when Overwatch 2 comes out if everyone looks at Apex and says "well, that was real and fun, but was not real fun, good bye eye strain, hello clean line of sight."
I love this game! it's fun regardless of the setbacks. Remember everybody if you can or have played it on another console don't even try to compare, for all those who haven't own any other console since the switch came out like me Im just happy to even have the opportunity to play such ports compared to the flop of the wii u that had no ports Im in heaven with the switch outer worlds, tropico 6, doom, fortnite, xcom 2, the witcher (witch is an amazing game) soon plants vs zombies keep them coming!!!
