Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon has been slammed as a hypocrite who preached “feminist ideals” by ex-wife Kai Cole, who also alleges that he cheated on her for over 15 years.
Cole was married to Whedon to 15 years before their split was announced in May of this year. Now, she has written a scathing blog post that accuses him of cheating on her throughout their marriage, and claims that he attempted to blame the affairs on “needy, aggressive, young women”.
In the blog post, Cole alleges that Whedon wrote in a letter: “It felt like I had a disease, like something from a Greek myth. Suddenly I am a powerful producer and the world is laid out at my feet and I can’t touch it.”
Despite Whedon being long hailed as a feminist for his portrayal of strong, female characters, Cole also accuses him of failing to recognise the apparent hypocrisy of his actions.
“Despite understanding, on some level, that what he was doing was wrong, he never conceded the hypocrisy of being out in the world preaching feminist ideals, while at the same time, taking away my right to make choices for my life and my body based on the truth”, she wrote.
“He deceived me for 15 years, so he could have everything he wanted.”
