Ernesto strengthens back into a hurricane, sends powerful rip currents to East Coast

Ernesto became a hurricane again as it churned away from Bermuda and headed further out in the northeastern Atlantic, sending powerful swells toward the U.S. East Coast.

Hurricane Ernesto began to pound Bermuda late Friday with heavy winds and rain after officials in the British territory opened shelters and closed government offices.

Puerto Rico activated the National Guard and canceled the start of classes in public schools as forecasters warned that the U.S. territory would be hit by Tropical Storm Ernesto.

Debby left thousands in the dark, and threats of more flooding

The weather system previously known as Hurricane Debby was not quite done with parts of the U.S. Sunday as flood warnings remained in effect in North Carolina and thousands were without power in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Tropical Storm Debby is flooding the Southeast, and it’s barely moving

Debby is expected to bring up to 25 inches of rain across parts of the Southeast. It's currently creeping over Georgia to the Atlantic Ocean, expected to return to shore this week with more strength.

Hurricane Debby inundates northern Florida with heavy rains and flooding

Debby came ashore just west of Steinhatchee, along the state's Big Bend region. It arrived with sustained winds of 80 mph, and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of utility customers.

India's plan to reroute rivers could have unintended consequences on rainfall

More than a hundred years ago, a British engineer proposed linking two rivers in India to better irrigate the area and cheaply move goods. The link never happened, but the idea survived. Today, due to extreme flooding in some parts of the country mirrored by debilitating drought in others, India's National Water Development Agency plans to dig thirty links between rivers across the country. It's the largest project of its kind and will take decades to complete. But scientists are worried what moving that much water could do to the land, the people — and even the weather. Host Emily Kwong talks to journalist Sushmita Pathak about her recent story on the project.

'Hellishly hot' southern Europe bakes under temperatures topping 104 F

Temperatures were in the triple-digits in much of the area on Tuesday and authorities warn that they could top 110 degrees F in southern Spain in the coming days.

Temperature records are shattered as extreme heat grips the West and East coasts

The heat wave in the U.S. is far from over. Parts of both coasts are bearing the brunt of the heat with record-breaking temperatures. The heat will continue its grip over the next few days.
