However, a slow Red Bull pit stop on Lap 52 due to a left rear wheel issue threw a wrench in his plans. A thrilling battle with Lando Norris ensued, but Norris' daring move for the lead resulted in a dramatic collision, forcing him out of the race. Late drama ensued as Mexico's penalty was converted into a corner kick late in the Group B clash in the Copa America between them and Ecuador. Mexico needed a win to qualify for the quarterfinal but were held on for a goalless draw by Ecuador for whom a stalemate was enough to advance. A strong second half-showing and the late surge were not enough for Mexico as Ecuador will now face Argentina in the last 8.

Venezuela kept their perfect record intact in Copa America 2024 as they cruised to a 3-0 victory against Jamaica to send the Caribbean team home without any points. Venezuela won all their three games and thus topped Group B to avoid clashing with World Champions and defending Copa America champions Argentina in the quarter-final. Jamaica on the other hand could not win a single point in the tournament and will now head home.

An early goal did not come in the way of a Germany-Spain quarterfinal clash as La Roja thrashed Georgia 4-1 in the round of 16 match at the Euro 2024. Georgia who had just defeated Portugal 2-0 got the lead thanks to Le Normand's own goal but the scoreline soon changed. Midfielders Rodri and Fabián Ruiz gave Spain the lead and strikes from Nico Williams and Dani OImo completed the thrashing. Spain will now meet Germany in the quarterfinal.

Slovakia looked all set to knock Euro 2024 favourites England out of the tournament with a 1-0 for over 90 minutes but then disaster struck. Jude Bellingham's spectacular overhead kick in the fifth of six added minutes in the injury time levelled the scores and then Harry Kane took just fifty seconds in the extra time to push England ahead. Earlier, Ivan Schranz's 25th-minute goal had set Slovakia on course to pull off an upset but it was not to be.
