Indian Team Victory Parade Highlights: Jubilant Fans Celebrate With Emotional Rohit & Co In Mumbai

After a long delay, the T20 World Cup champions are finally back home with the trophy, their first at an ICC event in 11 years. Rohit Sharma and co landed in New Delhi around 6 am in the morning. After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they left for Mumbai, where they undertook a massive victory parade atop an open-air bus through Marine Drive. The caravan then rolled over to Wankhede Stadium, where there was a grand felicitation ceremony for the Men In Blue in the presence of thousands of eager fans. The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team landed in Delhi on Thursday aboard a specially-arranged charter flight, five days after winning the coveted title in Barbados where it was stranded due to a category 4 hurricane.

• Team India leaves for PM Modi's house at 10:00 AM

• After meeting they take a chartered flight to Mumbai

• Drive from Mumbai airport to Wankhede Stadium

• Small presentation at the Wankhede and the World Cup to be handed by Rohit to BCCI secretary Jay Shah

Team bus has reached the prime minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi.

Shiv Sena leader Pratap Sarnaik says "Today's program in Mumbai has been organised by BCCI. Team India players from Mumbai including Captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey and Yashasvi Jaiswal will come to the Maharashtra Assembly tomorrow to meet CM Eknath Shinde. The celebrations are set to continue in Mumbai for the champion team! They'll be feted by the BCCI at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, followed by a victory parade on an open-top bus. They have left for the IGI Airport.

The double-decker, open top bus that will parade the triumphant Indian team from Marine Drive to Wankhede stadium has arrived, and eager fans are waiting with bated breath for players to arrive.

All local trains headed in the general vicinity of Wankhede Stadium are packed like sardines, as the air is ripe with anticipation of the Indian men's cricket team. Meanwhile, it is pouring down at Wankhede Stadium, but fans are not to be discouraged by that as they arrive at the venue, where entry is free.

If you are in Mumbai today, do take note of this: Mumbai traffic police has banned the parking of vehicles from morning to night on 10 roads, that are close to the victory parade route. Here is the list of all the roads:-

Veer Nariman Road, NS Road, Free Press Marg, Madam Cama Road, Dinshaw Vacha Road, Maharshi Karve Road, Barrister Rajni Patel Marg, Ramnath Goenka Marg, Vinay K Shah Road and Jamnalal Bajaj Marg.

The Indian team has finally landed in Mumbai, according to an Indian Express report. Wankhede Stadium is fully packed, and so is Marine Drive where fans have gathered in droves to watch their heroes parade the streets in a double-decker bus.

We are well past the scheduled time for the commencement of the victory parade. The Indian team's arrival in Mumbai was delayed, and the bus that will ferry them is reportedly yet to pick them up amid heavy traffic.

Even as the wait continues for the Indian team's victory parade, Mumbai Police has posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Due to the heavy rush of fans around Wankhede Stadium for the Victory Parade of the Indian Cricket Team, citizens are requested to avoid commuting towards Marine Drive."

The team should reach Marine Drive anytime now, and the victory parade will then commence from Marine Drive. The open-top bus is at the NCPA, awaiting its champions.

The moment has arrived. The Indian cricket team has hopped on the open-air double-decker bus at NCPA for their victory parade. Incredible visuals coming through as thousands crane their necks to catch a glimpse of their beloved stars with the trophy.

The Indian players and head coach Rahul Dravid appear nearly as animated on board the bus top, as they did after the final was won. Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma are pumping fists, and the crowd is going delirious. The party will continue late into the night.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma takes the mic upon entering Wankhede Stadium. "Mumbai never disappoints. The huge turnout of fans to welcome us shows they were as desperate for this T20 World Cup title as we were," he states. 

"I am going to miss this love. What I saw on the streets tonight, I won't forget it," says outgoing India head coach Rahul Dravid.

It is now Virat Kohli's turn to speak a few words. "I couldn't connect with the emotions of the seniors, who cried that night (after the 2011 ODI World Cup victory), but now I do," he says.

"What I saw today, I have never seen anything like this," gushes Player Of The Tournament Jasprit Bumrah after the rousing reception at Delhi airport, Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium.

Calling teammate Jasprit Bumrah a "once-in-a-generation" bowler, Virat Kohli says at the Wankhede Stadium: "I'll sign the petition for Jasprit Bumrah to be the eighth wonder of the world right now."

"India, you mean the world to me! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the love.. these are moments that I will never ever forget! Thank you for coming out to celebrate with us, despite the rains! We love you so much! Celebrating with you is why we do what we do! We’re all champions! All 1.4 billion of us! Thank you Mumbai, thank you India," Hardik Pandya's post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) reads.

Here's what Kohli had to say on the significance of this triumph. "Rohit and I, we've been trying this for so long. We always wanted to win a World Cup. Bringing the trophy back to Wankhede is a very special feeling. We have been playing for the last 15 years and this is the first time, I've seen Rohit so emotional - he was crying, I was crying, a hug between both of us - I will never forget that day."

Now this is what truly epitomizes the power of sport. Barely a month ago, Hardik Pandya was getting booed at Wankhede Stadium and elsewhere by Mumbai Indians fans for having replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain for Indian Premier League 2024. And now, having helped India lift the T20 World Cup trophy, his mere mention from Rohit elicits thunderous cheers. "Hats off to him to bowl that last over. No matter how many runs you need, there's always so much pressure to bowl that over. Hats off to him," says Rohit before the Wankhede crowd starts chanting "Hardik! Hardik!".

Shah Rukh Khan tweets: "Seeing the boys so happy and emotional fills my heart with pride…. As Indians this is such an amazing moment - to see our boys take us to such great heights!!! Love u all my Team India… and now dance away all night long. Boys in Blue take away all the blues!"
