India’s Vinesh Phogat could be disqualified from the 2024 Paris Olympic after she failed to make the weight on the morning of her 50kg freestyle gold medal bout.

Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the women’s 50 kg freestyle bout after weighing a few grams over 50kg, reports have confirmed.

IOA released statement and confirmed that Vinesh Phogat is disqualified from Paris Olympics: "It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand."

Speaking on the matter of Vignesh Phogat's disqualification from the Paris Olympics medal round, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi expressed his disappointment.

According to the sources, PM Modi spoke to IOA President PT Usha and sought first hand information from her on the issue and the options India has in the wake of Vinesh's setback. The Prime Minister also asked the IOA president to explore the full range of options to help Vinesh’s case and urged PT Usha to file a strong protest regarding the disqualification of Vignesh Phogat.

In wrestling the weigh-in process is considered as the one of the most critical parts which is followed for every international event under the International Wrestling Rules of United World Wrestling.

Every morning the weigh-ins procedure are conducted in the respective weight categories which lasts last 30 minutes.

All the wrestlers have to pass the medical examination on the first morning of the competition, if they fail that, they won't be allowed to participate in the weigh-in.

After missing out on medals in the individual Table Tennis events, the Indian women's team is aiming for a medal in the team competition at the Paris Olympics 2024 facing off against Germany in the quarterfinals.

Spain's Martina Perez crossed the finish line first to claim the gold medal with her teammate Alvaro Martin. With this, they become the Olympic champions in the marathon mixed relay race walk for the first time.

In athletics, India once again face heartbreak as Jyothi Yarraji fails to reach the final of the women's 100m hurdles race. In Round 1 Heat 4, she managed to finish seventh place in a time of 13.16 while her reaction time was 0.168.

In the women's table tennis team event quarterfinals, Manika Batra lost the second match against Germany's Annett Kaufmann. Batra won the first game but Kaufmann bounced back and won the next three games on the trot to give Germany 2-0 lead in the quarterfinals.

Annu Rani failed to qualify for the finals as she got distances of 55.81m, 53.22m, and 53.55m in her three attempts. That ranks her 15th out of 16 throwers in Group B. She is quite far from the qualification standard of 62m.

Spain was trailing Egypt by one with 30 seconds left and seemed to be heading out of the competition. However, Ian Tarrafeta stepped up and scored a goal that tied the game, sending it into overtime.

In the extra period, both teams scored goals, but it was Aleix Gomez's penalty goal with 25 seconds left that ultimately secured a 29-28 win for the Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists, Spain.

Archana Girish Kamath won the third match by a margin of 3-1 to take India back into the game against Germany in the women's Table Tennis team event quarterfinals. India are trailing 1-2 in the Match and need to win next both matches to enter the semifinals.

Sarvesh Kushare failed to clear 2.20m in his 3 attempts in the qualifications round of the men's high jump event at Paris Olympics 2024.

India's one of the best medal-contender in the ongoing Paris Olympics, Antim Panghal has been knocked out of the Games after losing to Turkey's Yetgil Zeynep in the round of 16 bout. She will now hope to compete in repechage if Zeynep reaches the final.

Antim Panghal competes in the women's 53kg freestyle category. It was Vinesh Phogat's original category. She had to cut weights to compete in 50kg.

India were already trailing by 1-2 after the third match and Sreeja Akula came to play the 4th match against Germany's Annett Kaufmann. The German defeated the Indian player 3-0 to take his team into the semifinals of the women's table tennis team event. Another heartbreak for India!

It was a disappointing day for Indian athletes at the Paris Olympics. Germany also knocked out Indian table tennis women's team in the quarterfinals. Antim Panghal lost to Turkey's wrestler 10-0 in pre-quarters. Vinesh Phogat's disqualifications hurt the most.

But there are three more Indians left to compete today. Abdullah Naranglontevida and Praveen Chithravel will compete in the Men's Triple Jump qualification round, while weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will start her campaign in the women's 49kg event. She clinched the silver in Tokyo.

After the first round of the women's golf individual event, India's Aditi Ashok finished tied third whereas Diksha Dagar was tied 9th. We are at just 12 holes and a lot of work is needed.

The Opals advanced to the semi-finals of the women's competition with an 85-67 win over Serbia. They built on their strong second quarter performance to secure the victory. Serbia never posed a significant threat to the Opals. The key factors in the Opals' win were their excellent ball movement, with 22 assists, and their ability to get to the free-throw line, making 22 out of 25 attempts. Alanna Smith (AUS) delivered an outstanding performance with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots.

In a thrilling neck-and-neck race, Miroslaw and Deng Lijuan (CHN) raced up the 15m wall. However, it was Miroslaw, the 2023 world bronze medalist, who reached the target first in 6.10 seconds, securing the first-ever Olympic Speed medal. The bronze went to Miroslaw's compatriot, Aleksandra Kalucka (POL), who won the small final just moments before Miroslaw's race.

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok is displaying brilliant golf play in the opening round of the women's individual event. Three more rounds will be played over the course of the next three days. Diksha Dagar is tied 7th in the first round.

The morning athletics session at the Stade de France has just finished. In addition to the updates from the men's high jump and women's 100m hurdles that we provided earlier, here's a brief summary of the other events that took place:

Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Maria Andrejczyk (POL) achieved a season-best throw of 65.52m in the qualifying round, which was the top distance of any competitor.

- Men's 5000m round 1

Tokyo 2020 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR) advanced to Saturday's final with the quickest time in the qualifying round (13:51.59).

- Women's 1500m repechage

Birke Haylom (ETH) led six women from repechage heats into the semi-finals.

- Men's 800m round 1

2023 world silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi (KEN) recorded the fastest time at 1:44.64 to advance to the semi-finals.

The Netherlands' Maria Bouwmeester, a three-time Olympic medalist, has just made history by becoming the most successful woman in Olympic sailing with her fourth medal, which happens to be gold! The 36-year-old finished 4th in the medal race, securing her place at the top of the podium. Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark earned the silver, while Line Flem Hoest (NOR) took home the bronze.

There was drama in the medal race of the men's one-person dinghy event. As the boats were heading to the third mark, race control flew the blue and white checkered flag, indicating that the race had been abandoned and would be resailed. Unfortunately, the resailing has been delayed due to the weather.

The Netherlands defeated Argentina 3-0 in the first semi-final of the day to advance to their sixth successive Olympic women's hockey final, which is an incredible achievement! This game was a rematch of the Tokyo 2020 final (which the Dutch won 3-1). The goals were scored by Luna Noa Fokke, Laura Nunnink, and Yibbi Jansen.

The other semi-final between Belgium and the People's Republic of China will begin at 19:00 CET.

The final is scheduled for Friday, August 9 at 20:00 CET.

In a surprising turn of events, the hosts and defending champions France were eliminated from the men's handball quarter-finals by Germany in overtime. Despite initially leading 29-27, France let in two goals in the last 13 seconds of regular time. In the 10-minute extra period, with Germany in the lead and time running out, France managed to level the game at 34-34 with just 15 seconds left.

However, Renars Uscins scored with only four seconds remaining, securing the win for Germany. This match also marked the legendary Nikola Karabatic's final international appearance. He received a standing ovation from the crowd and both teams.

For the first time in 20 years, France will not be in the men's handball semi-finals. Germany will now face Spain, who defeated Egypt 29-28 earlier.

In the men's dinghy medal race, Australia's fleet leader Matt Wearn won the race and secured the gold medal, becoming the first man to win back-to-back gold medals in the Laser (ILCA7) class. He defended his title from Tokyo with a total net score of 40 points.

Cyprus's Pavlos Kontides, a silver medallist from 12 years ago in London, crossed the finish line in second place, confirming his overall silver, with a total of 56 points.

The battle for bronze between Peru's Stefano Peschiera and Great Britain's Michael Beckett was intense, with both sailors picking up course penalties.

These are the first medals of Cyprus and Peru in the Olympics 2024.

Belgium extended their lead in the third quarter, building an 18-point advantage that effectively secured them the game. Spain made a comeback in the fourth quarter, narrowing the score to within 11 points, but a well-timed three-pointer from Julie Vanloo energized the crowd and the Belgium bench, and Spain couldn't catch up. The final score was 79-66 in favor of Belgium.

Belgium has reached the semi-finals of an Olympic tournament in only their second appearance at the Games.

A new Olympic record has been set in the men's 61kg weightlifting snatch category! The reigning champion, Li Fabin of the People's Republic of China, successfully lifted 143kg on his third attempt, surpassing the previous Olympic record of 142kg. In the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo three years ago, Li's best snatch lift was 141kg, which was not enough to break the then-new event's Olympic record standard.

Celine Boutier was the standout performer among the women golfers today at Le Golf National, shooting an impressive seven-under 65 on a day when only 12 out of 60 women finished under par. With the support of the home fans, the Frenchwoman currently leads by three strokes ahead of South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai. India's Diksha Dagar was tied seventh and Aditi Ashok was tied 13th after the first round.

In the men's skateboard park Olympic finals, Australia's Keegan Palmer retained his title with a strong first-run score of 93.11. USA's Tom Schaar secured the silver with a second run score of 92.23, while Brazil's Augusto Akio took the bronze with a final run score of 91.85, narrowly beating his teammate Pedro Barros. After his victory, Palmer slammed his board on the ground in celebration before being lifted onto the shoulders of his teammates Barros and Tate Carew.

Into the last kilometre, Britain's trio closed the gap to under two tenths. Great Britain nearly crashes in the dying meters but Ethan Hayter just about hangs on to it! Australia takes gold in 3:42.067. Great Britain claims silver and Italy bronze. A 20-year wait for gold is over.

Mirabai Chanu will be in action soon in the women's 49kg weightlifting event. Chanu is a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.

The women's 49kg weightlifting event is currently on with India's hopes resting on Mirabai Chanu's shoulders.

USA win the gold in the women's team pursuit track cycling event. New Zealand take silver, Great Britain bronze.

Mirabai Chanu has completed an 88kg snatch in her third attempt.

Both Praveen Chithravel & Abdulla Aboobacker fail to qualify for Final of Triple Jump event.

Vinesh Phogat has appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) against her disqualification for missing weight ahead of her gold medal bout at the Paris Olympics.

CAS is set to reveal its interim verdict on Thursday, August 8 and if the jury rules in Vinesh’s favour, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will have to award a joint silver to the Indian wrestler.

Mirabai Chanu lifted 111kg in her second attempt at clean and jerk after failing in her fist. She is currently third.

Another fourth-place finish for India! Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 200 kg and remained out of the medal zone.

Avinash Sable has finished at the 11th position. Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco defends his gold. USA's Kenneth Rooks is second and Abraham Kibiwot is third.

Hou Zhihui of People's Republic of China has taken gold in the women's 49kg weightlifting event, breaking the clean and jerk Olympic record along the way.

Hou lifted 89kg in the snatch and 117kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 206kg, just 1kg ahead of silver medallist Mihaela Cambei of Romania.

Bronze went to Thailand's Surodchana Khambao.
