Hands-on with the Acer Liquid A1

We got our hands on Acer´s first Android-based handset, the Acer Liquid A1 literally a few minutes ago. You´ve probably heard of the device already, since it was thought to be the first Android-based cell phone to come with 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Well, it turns out this is not entirely accurate, because the CPU runs at 768MHz. The information made us pucker our brows initially, but now with the Acer Liquid A1 in our hands, we just have to admit the operational speed of the device is proper and it runs exceptionally smoothly (at least for now).

The handset design is quite appealing and as expected, the huge 3.5-inch WVGA display equates to an overall size similar to that of the iPhone. Similarly to most Windows Mobile handsets of the manufacturer, all buttons on the front side are touch-sensitive and the phone body is covered in glossy plastic.



We are pleasantly surprised to see that Acer has pre-installed quite a few applications. For an instance, there is a home screen widget that provides quick access to the multimedia content on the device, plus you´ve got another one to quick open web pages. The device also comes with an application called Spinlets that you can use to listen to music online. The manufacturer has promised easy synchronization of contacts to Facebook and Flickr accounts, but we can´t say we´ve been largely successful this far.



As a whole, the hardware specifications of the Acer Liquid A1 look quite impressive indeed, but we will need some time to test all features of the interface and the pre-installed applications in order to pass our final judgement.
