SEGA Forever will bring all your favorite SEGA games on mobile for free, starting tomorrow

About a week ago, SEGA sent out some weird packages to some journalists, including a casette tape (remember those?) with soundtracks from old SEGA games on them. We know this because some of the 512 game journalists that received the tapes, actually still had a device that could play them, or managed to find one. There were also notes, that were supposed to be cryptic, but not so much that they wouldn't be decoded.

Obviously, this meant that SEGA is planning to bring some of its retro games to mobile, and it has now been officially confirmed. SEGA is bringing some of its classics to Android and iOS, under the collective name SEGA Forever.

The collection is expected to grow quite a lot, as SEGA promises to release new games every two weeks. These will not be reimaginations of the classic hits, but “official emulations and portet games that pan all SEGA console eras, each adapted specifically for mobile devices while remaining faithful to the original games.” Said adaptations will include added features, such as leaderboards, cloud saves, and other basic functionalities that come with mobile games.

All the games of the SEGA Forever collection will be free-to-play, and they will sport ads. But for users that prefer a pristine ad-free experience, a one-time payment per game will be available.

“Above all else, SEGA Forever is a celebration of nostalgia. It's about allowing fans to reconnect with past experiences and share them with family and friends in an accessible and convenient way,” expains Mike Evans, CMO of SEGA's Mobile Division in the West. “SEGA Forever democratizes retro gaming, and seks to change how the world plays, rediscovers, and shares in classic game experiences.”

The collection officially kicks off tomorrow with five games, all of which will be available for free on Google Play and the iOS App Store. The iOS versions will also include iMessage sticker packs. The games in question are Sonic The Hedgehog, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, and Altered Beast.

The App Store pages are not live yet, but you can find the Google Play versions on the following links:
