Samsung's next Galaxy smartphones will arrive April 10
Samsung is done with flagship announcements for the time being, but it still has a number of mid-range offerings on the way. And in preparation for their arrival, the company has just announced a new event that will take place on April 10th.

What can be expected from the event?

Revealed via Twitter, Samsung’s latest “Galaxy Event” will apparently see us “enter the era of Live.” Although unconfirmed, this presumably means that the company’s upcoming devices will focus in some way or another on photography.

The official date and tagline are accompanied by a short video which depicts a skateboarder and three smartphone-shaped devices, thus indicating that three smartphones are on the way.

As noted in the opening paragraph, Samsung won’t be announcing any flagship models next month. Instead, the April event will likely see the arrival of three Galaxy A-branded smartphones. More specifically, the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A60, and Galaxy A40.

The Samsung Galaxy A90

According to a recent rumor, Samsung is hard at work on a budget flagship that will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, just like the Galaxy S10 series. Details about the model are scarce at the moment, but there’s a strong possibility that it could be the Galaxy A90.

In light of the recent trend towards bezel-less displays, the Galaxy A90 is expected to adopt a new pop-out camera system – this will give Samsung the opportunity to skip both the display hole and the notch. But unlike other implementations, this pop-out module might also rotate, thus removing the need for separate rear cameras.

Now, in order to keep costs down and profit margins up, a few corners will probably be cut. For one, the AMOLED display found on the Galaxy S10 series will most likely be ditched in favor of a cheaper LCD panel. Similarly, a glass build is extremely unlikely. Instead, Samsung will probably opt for a glossy plastic rear.

At the moment, pricing information remains unconfirmed. However, if the device does turn out to be Samsung’s rumored budget flagship, a retail price in the region of $600 is highly likely. After all, this would allow it to compete pretty directly with the upcoming OnePlus 7.

The Samsung Galaxy A60

The Samsung Galaxy A60 could be one of Samsung’s largest smartphones in recent history. Like other Galaxy A-branded models, it’s expected to adopt an Infinity-U display. This time around, though, it’ll apparently boast a diagonal of 6.7-inches.

Above the display will once again be a small U-shaped notch which, in this case, should be home to a 32-megapixel snapper. This exact sensor may also be featured on the rear alongside an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor that’ll improve bokeh imagery.

According to rumors, the Galaxy A60 will also include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and a considerable 128GB of internal storage. A large 4,500mAh battery is rumored too, as is Android 9 Pie complete with One UI.

As for how much the device will cost, the Galaxy A60 should sit just above the Galaxy A50. As a result, retail pricing of around €400 ($453)  is likely.

The Samsung Galaxy A40

Lastly, as indicated by its name, the Samsung Galaxy A40 will sit directly between the existing Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A40. The smartphone is expected to borrow the same 6.4-inch Infinity-U display and will probably maintain the glossy plastic finish.

Internally, this device won’t be anything too special. In fact, it’s expected to borrow the octa-core Exynos 7904 found inside the Galaxy A30. However, this time around the chip should be paired with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.

The Galaxy A40 may also include a decent set of cameras. More specifically, 25-megapixel cameras are to be expected up front and on the rear. The rear sensor should then also be accompanied by a 5-megapixel depth sensor and an 8-megapixel camera paired with a wide-angle lens.

As for pricing, a recent leak pointed towards a retail cost of €249 ($282) across Europe. If this is indeed the case, the smartphone will compete directly with Motorola’s Moto G7 which, at the moment, is one of the best mid-range offerings around.
