Tim Cook: 30 billion apps downloaded from the App Store to date
Wow, it seems like it was only yesterday when the Apple App Store download counter passed the 25 billion mark. That actually happened back in March, and one lucky iPhone user won a $10,000 gift card for making that milestone a reality.

Yet today at WWDC 2012, Tim Cook himself announced that the number of apps downloaded from the App Store has passed 30 billion. Quite an accomplishment, we must add. In comparison, the Google Play store can brag with some 15 billion downloads and counting, which is also impressive, yet still far from reaching Apple's milestone.

The Apple App Store currently contains over 650,000 applications, with at least 250,000 of them tailored to work on the iPad as well. All this software has brought an excess of $5 billion straight to developers' pockets. "Nothing makes us happier than seeing hundreds of thousands of developers around the world using our hardware and our software to create and share their latest and greatest ideas," Tim Cook added.
