Xiaomi MIX EVO could sport a Snapdragon 835 processor

Of 2016's major smartphone releases, the Xiaomi Mi MIX was among the biggest surprises. We had a good idea of what Xiaomi's October keynote would present with the Mi Note 2, but it was the subsequent unveiling of the 6.4-inch Mi MIX concept phone that really stole the show. Following the device's release, there were some lingering suggestions that a smaller, 'nano' version of the MIX could be on the cards. Such rumors were swiftly quashed by a Xiaomi official, but a new references suggests that the MIX line could yet spawn another model.

Dubbed the MIX EVO, the device has been spotted through Geekbench -- a tool for benchmarking mobile processors. Given the MIX naming, it's likely that the EVO model is a bumped version the current generation, perhaps a Mi MIX 1.5 with a few welcome improvements.  As you can see in the image, the handset listed is inclusive of 4 GB of RAM. The current Mi MIX tops out at 6 GB of RAM, though a 4 GB model is also available. If the MIX EVO is indeed a Thing, we'd expect a 6 GB variant to be an option once more.

Powering the device could be Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 835, which will surely be the driving force behind many a top-end gadget this year. The Mi MIX touts the chip maker's interim Snapdragon 821, but the new Snapdragon 835 is considerably more powerful and efficient, and would provide a welcome boost to this supposed new MIX iteration.

Those details aside, there's not much else to tell of the MIX EVO as yet. It's thought that the 6.4-inch display will remain, and that the majority of tweaks will be internal. An announcement could take place at Mobile World Congress which kicks off at the end of next month, and we'll be sure to pass on any leaked info that should arrive prior to an official unveiling.

In the meantime, let us know in the comments whether you'd be interested in an improved, Snapdragon 835-powered Xiaomi MIX EVO smartphone.
