Galaxy A54 and A34 are here with more advanced cameras, long-lasting battery life, and 5G
Samsung has just unveiled its two newest additions to the Galaxy A-series: the Galaxy A54 5G and the Galaxy A34 5G. The phones have somewhat leaked in the past few weeks and are now officially joining the market, aiming for the title of best mid-range smartphone for this year. Now, let's see what these awesome phones bring to the table.
First off, we have the A54 sporting a 6.4 Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the A34 comes with a slightly bigger 6.6-inch display. Samsung says the displays of the two phones have been upgraded for better outdoor visibility.
The dimensions of the two phones are as follows:
On the front, the A34 sports a teardrop notch for the 13MP front camera, while the A54, which is by the way the slightly higher-tier one, sports a punch-hole design.
Speaking of cameras, there are some notable changes in the camera department from last year. At first, the specs of the Galaxy A54 camera may sound to some like a disappointment - the main sensor is now 50MP instead of 64MP - but Samsung notes several improvements on the software side of things aimed to take your camera experience to the next level.
Also, Samsung highlights the 32MP camera of the Galaxy A54 which should deliver great detail for video calls or selfies.
The Galaxy A54 has a 50MP main camera with F1.8 and OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide with F2.2 aperture, and a 5MP macro cam. Its slightly cheaper sibling comes with a 48MP main camera (F1.8, OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide with F2.2 aperture, and a 5MP macro shooter.
And last but definitely not least, for the first time in a Galaxy A-series device, you will be able to use enhanced editing tools to remove unwanted shadows or reflections from your images.
Of course, we'll have to wait and test the camera capabilities of these phones ourselves before we're able to tell you how the improvements have gone this year.
On the other hand, something that we can be quite sure of is the generous battery size that the phones have. It was a couple of years ago that Samsung started advertising the A-series with its great battery life (remember the "long-lasting battery life" ad?). Well, things look promising on that end and both phones sport 5,000mAh battery cells. That's awesome for midrangers.
The two phones will become available in March, starting with select markets in Europe and Southeast Asia. As for the U.S., the Galaxy A54 starts at $449.99. Availability begins April 6, with pre-orders starting March 30.
The two phones will be available in 6GB of RAM + 128GB of storage, 8GB of RAM + 128GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM + 256GB of storage variants. Luckily for all of you digital hoarders, the two phones come with a microSD card slot and you can expand their storage space all the way up to 1TB.
These two hot Android phones will come with Android 13 with One UI 5.1 on top out of the box.
Galaxy A54 and A34 design and display
Okay, we have a similar design to last year with some new fresh colors to choose from. The Galaxy A54 comes in four color options - Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White, while the A34 comes in Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Silver. The only different color between the two is the Awesome White and the Awesome Silver. The A34 in Awesome Silver sports a radiant finish. Both phones feature IP67 water and dust resistance rating.
Differences in looks between the two phones are minimal, but still worth noting, so here we go.
