Check out the world's first official look at the OnePlus 12 starring a gorgeous 'Oriental Screen'

Even though the OnePlus 12 has been in the news quite a bit over the last couple of months, going through the typical rumor mill motions preceding the formal announcement of a highly anticipated new phone, we never really expected to see the next-gen Android super-flagship in the flesh so early in the year.

After all, the OnePlus 11 was unveiled at the very beginning of 2023, and while a few tipsters claimed that the company wouldn't wait a full 12 months to roll out a sequel, said sequel is still most likely not coming until December.

But because this is a brand that often likes to generate its own hype around future products rather than leaving everything in the hands of leakers or trying (and failing) to prevent them from spilling all the secrets online, we probably shouldn't act too shocked that we can already feast our eyes on the actual, real-life, and very much official OnePlus 12 display.

Behold the "industry-leading" 2K "Oriental Screen" of the OnePlus 12!

Why Oriental Screen? To be perfectly frank, we have no idea. But that's how China-based manufacturer BOE is advertising the undeniably gorgeous 2K panel on a presumably functional pre-release OnePlus 12 prototype, photographed while largely concealing its sides and backplate.

This undoubtedly cutting-edge display is described as "industry-leading", record-breaking, "probably the brightest 2K screen in the world", "probably the 2K screen with the strongest eye protection ability in the world", and probably the "world's longest-lasting OLED 2K screen", which obviously builds up our excitement to sky-high levels despite all those claims being impossible to verify or back up in any (objective) way at the moment.

OnePlus is also promising that this "Mount Everest-climbing" BOE-made screen will break 18 records in total, achieving 6 "major technological breakthroughs", 9 "major global firsts", and 12 "global premieres" (unclear how the latter two are really different), but in lack of any specifics on these records and innovations, it might be wise not to expect too much from the company's next big handset.

After all, this is still likely to cost significantly less than Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra, for instance, while reportedly going all the way up to 2,600 nits of brightness. That's double the peak brightness level of the OnePlus 11's already outstanding panel, although it actually falls a little short of the OnePlus Open's remarkable 2,800 nits achievement as far as both its primary and secondary displays are concerned.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is also confirmed

To the surprise of absolutely no (mobile tech-passionate) soul, the OnePlus 12 will come packing Qualcomm's latest state-of-the-art chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is obviously all but guaranteed to reside inside all of the best phones soon to be released by brands as diverse as Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and so on and so forth, which doesn't stop OnePlus from claiming its top-of-the-line device might be the model "most worth buying" in (early) 2024.

That's primarily due to all of the records and breakthroughs of a screen likely to retain the 6.7-inch size and 3200 (or so) x 1440 pixel resolution of the OnePlus 11 but also a number of other mouth-watering specs and features that the company is not ready to confirm just yet.

According to several rock-solid rumors and reports, these are set to include up to 24 gigs of RAM (!!!), a hefty 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities, and an absolutely bonkers rear-facing camera system composed of not one but two 50MP shooters and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens.

The mysterious matter of that fourth sensor rendered on the back of the OnePlus 12 in revised product depictions last month hasn't been cleared up, which is just one of multiple reasons why you should continue to keep your eyes peeled on our website for more rumors, revelations, teasers, and confirmations leading up to the presumed official launch sometime in December.
