Pinterest Engineering is growing in Dublin, so we sat down with Nutsa Chichilidze to learn more about her working life at Pinterest. From Pintern to full-time Software Engineer, get to know Nutsa’s journey and the invaluable benefits of joining the Pinterest team.

Nice to meet you, Nutsa!

Hi I’m Nutsa Chichilidze, and I’m a Software Engineer. I’ve been at Pinterest for almost two years, located in Dublin, Ireland.

You started as an intern. Can you share more about your internship and what your journey has been like from Pintern to Software Engineer?

My friend shared this opportunity with me. During my interviews, everyone was very friendly, and overall it was a positive experience. I joined Data Privacy, a small team where I felt super involved and had hands-on engineering experiences. I was the first intern outside of the US and Canada. For University Recruiting programming, they shifted the times to accommodate me and always checked in to make sure I felt connected and supported. During the internship, we did virtual interactive activities where we were able to network with other Pinterns. I had an assigned Buddy in San Francisco who was a full-time engineer that regularly connected with me to share any advice or answer questions.

A few months after my internship, University Recruiting reached out to me and gave me a full-time offer to join the Data Privacy team as a New Grad Software Engineer. I was happy to come back to Pinterest.

What’s different about Pinterest Engineering?

We have a positive culture where everyone is always helping each other. In Dublin specifically, we only have three engineering teams, and it feels like a small community where we interact with each other often. The work that we’re doing feels impactful and that we’re making a difference.

How has Pinterest helped you reach your goals?

As a junior engineer, my colleagues have always been supportive and focused on letting me learn and explore. Even in my internship, they gave me a lot of guidance. When I started at Pinterest, I didn’t have any experience in data engineering from college, and my internship was heavily focused on data engineering. I gained a lot of knowledge from my team and that helped me in my full-time role.

Pinterest has a flexible work model, PinFlex. Do you usually join us on-site or virtually?

Most days, I work from the office. The location is super convenient for me as it’s in the center of Dublin. I feel more focused and inspired in the office. There’s also a mix of different departments within Pinterest Dublin which I think is really cool - I get to meet folks from Sales, Trust & Safety and more. The new office design is like stepping into the Pinterest platform. Can you believe we have a Pub?

For in-person collaboration, I’ve been to two on-sites over the past year. It’s been fun traveling to San Francisco, California to meet with my team. We also have a Work-From-Anywhere benefit, where full-time employees can work outside of their country for up to 90 days. PinFlex is great because I have the flexibility to travel home and work from my hometown.

What would you tell a friend about working at Pinterest?

We have many great Senior Engineers working in Dublin and being around them is super beneficial for a junior engineer because you get to learn so much. You can go to their desk or reach out to them virtually and ask them a question. They’re more than happy to help tackle challenges together.

What are you currently Pinning?

I use Pinterest every day - whether it’s Pinning travel, interior design, fashion or makeup inspiration.
