This is a very nice improvement

Doom’s release on the Nintendo Switch has always felt like a bit of a miracle, and that miracle became a bit easier to play with today’s patch that adds motion controls to the game.

You’ll find the ability to toggle “motion aiming” in the menu after installing the update, and it allows you to aim by moving the right Joy-Con, similar to the motion controls in Splatoon 2.

I spent about 10 minutes testing the controls this morning by disconnecting the Joy-Cons from the system and propping the Switch’s screen on my desk at work, and the motion controls are much more comfortable and precise than the hand-cramping original controls in portable mode.

The full patch notes have yet to be released by Bethesda, but the patch itself is definitely live and ready to go. The second obvious change is Doom’s new home menu icon that mimics the look of the classic game.

This is a very pleasant surprise, and the motion controls make it much easier to aim with precision without your hands cramping up into claws.

Update: You can read the full patch notes on Bethesda’s blog.
