Destiny 2 players accidentally discover Haunted Forest Halloween event’s return

Last year, Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost Halloween event impressed with its Haunted Forest game mode. But it seems an in-game emblem from last year’s Festival of the Lost may have accidentally spilled the beans on the mode’s return this year.

Players who tackled the Haunted Forest event last year earned two associated emblems: Terror’s End and Deep in the Woods. These emblems track stats associated with the event — Terrors defeated and deepest branch reached, respectively.

Sometime since Oct. 1 — the launch of Destiny 2’s latest expansion, Shadowkeep — Bungie updated the emblems. Each emblem now has two stat lines: one for 2018 stats, and one for 2019 stats. The game mode hasn’t been available in 2019 yet, leading players to believe it’s going to return in the next two months.

The event is a timed mission that sends Guardians into the Haunted Forest to kill legions of enemies. When players complete a branch — Bungie’s name for a single run through the dungeon — they’re teleported to a boss arena. After players kill the boss, they’re sent back in for another run, with each branch harder than the last.

Bungie already announced that it’ll kick off the Festival of the Lost event on Oct. 29, and that it’ll run through Nov. 19. Last year, players went on a quest to retrieve the Thunderlord machine gun. As of this writing, we don’t know what new rewards players will hunt for this year.
