To those still wanting to sleep off their long holiday weekend: I see you, I salute you. Hopefully House of the Dragon’s big climactic battle scene gets the blood pumping a little and makes heading back to the grind after an extended weekend a tad easier (even as we mourn...).

But if it doesn’t, there’s always some new TV this week to help ease us all into whatever it may bring. Personally, I plan on checking out The Boyfriend — they had me at coffee cart, what can I say!

Here’s the best new TV premieres this week.

New shows on Netflix

The Boyfriend

Genre: Reality show
Release date: July 9, with three episodes (with new three-episode batches every week)
Cast: Nine men in search of love

What Netflix is billing as Japan’s first gay reality show is here, with nine men all trying to find love while they work together in a coffee truck. As you watch them (hopefully!) fall head over heels for each other, there will be five commentators watching along with you, offering their own insights and opinions (Megumi, Chiaki Horan, Thelma Aoyama, Durian Lollobrigida, and Yoshimi Tokui).

Vikings: Valhalla

Genre: Period piece (violent)
Release date: July 11
Showrunner/creator: Jeb Stuart
Cast: Leo Suter, Sam Corlett, Frida Gustavsson, and more

Vikings: Valhalla is riding off to Valhalla — season 3 will be our final outing with Harald (Leo Suter), Leif (Sam Corlett), and Freydís (Frida Gustavsson). There will be voyages and battles and fighting against Christianity, of course. There will also be some new faces — like Erik the Red (Goran Višnjić), Leif and Freydís’ legendary father.

New shows on Apple TV Plus

Sunny

Genre: Sci-fi thriller
Release date: July 10, with two episodes
Showrunner/creator: Katie Robbins
Cast: Rashida Jones, Hidetoshi Nishijima, and more

Suzie (Rashida Jones) has just tragically lost her husband and child in a plane crash. Then, his company drops a companion robot — the titular Sunny — on her to help her cope and grieve. But before too long she starts to suspect that Sunny isn’t as bright and cheerful as the name suggests — in fact, the mysterious company her husband worked for might be up to something much worse.
