I'm passionate about helping my clients better understand themselves. This self-awareness is the key to overcoming difficult emotions such as anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, and overwhelm. Sometimes they come to me just feeling stuck, unmotivated, and unsure of how to move forward. I work with them to find the reasons behind these challenges and then step on the path to healing. I am fascinated by people and the uniqueness of their life experiences, so the most important aspect for me is to build a trusting relationship with my clients so they feel safe, accepted, and comfortable opening up about whatever is on their minds.

I am passionate about working with clients that struggle with anxiety, grief, and life transitions. These experiences often invoke a feeling of being stuck; not knowing how to move forward. This leads to feeling overwhelmed and alone. I use a warm, gentle and strength-based approach. I believe that clients are the experts on their own life. I help them to process blocked emotions and provide tools to help them thrive. I believe that every human being strives for and has the capacity to fulfill their own potential. Anxiety has become one of the most prominent mental health issues in the world. The fast-paced world that we live conditions many of us to believe that high anxiety levels are the norm and while healthy levels of stress can keep us motivated. Excessive and ongoing feelings of anxiety and worry can negatively impact both our health, and our ability to function at an optimal level. Often, these feelings stem from our past and appear in our present – negatively impacting our daily life.

I'm a Registered Psychologist who works with people facing stress/anxiety, panic, life transitions, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and related concerns. I work with teens and adults. I do not use a "one size fits all" approach, but will tailor the approach to you after getting to know you during our first meetings. I typically use evidence-based and skills-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and incorporate other approaches if appropriate.

All grief is not the same. You might think that you cannot survive your traumatic loss and life will never seem right again. You might think that the pain you are in now will never end. You wonder how other people get through the day. My clients seek to make sense of what has happened in their lives, to be understood and have a place of safety to explore new ways of living. Having helped clients in many areas of counselling and psychotherapy and with most age groups over the past 20 years, my experience is broad and deep. This informs my current work with clients, who like you, are looking for hope that life can get better.

Hi, everyone. Individuals, couples and poly folks tend to seek me out because I’m clear-headed, sincere and deeply hopeful. So, if you’re having feelings of anger, disconnection or overwhelming anxiety, we can find ways for you to feel lighter, easier, more certain. People processing childhood trauma and abuse, or grappling with low self-esteem, powerlessness and grief — they find relief here too. We start with what feels helpful for you — sometimes that’s having a safe sounding board; other times it’s having a co-problem solver with tools right beside you. My sense of humour is a plus, so is my endless curiosity and compassion.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
