I work with people so they can be happier. People want counselling as they want to make a change for the better. I can help you identify what the problem is that you want to change, work out how to make changes that reduce the problem and improve your life. As you make better, healthier, happier choices, you will feel better about yourself and your life. You may be struggling with a relationship, a loved one close to you, or you may be struggling with an addiction. You may be not be happy about your work life balance, or struggling with parts of your past that you are not at peace with. I will help you to like yourself more.

I invite you practice a few deep breaths as you reflect on aspects of your journey that led you to this page. Have you been feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? Exhausted or drained? Perhaps seeking to to learn new coping tools or wanting to develop your self-care practices? When we bottle up emotions and feel disconnected to both ourselves and others it can be difficult to access healing, recovery, and growth. Counselling can provide a space to press pause from busyness or turmoil. Seeking a safe space to rest. reflect, and to feel restored.

Communication and trust is important in the counsellor/client relationship. I'm passionate in helping people feel better. Whether your struggling with anxiety, depression, or just going through a hard time, I will do my absolute best to support you. Most people need an outlet to process their life experiences. They want to be heard and not judged. They want to leave feeling better, motivated, with improved self esteem and awareness. It can be exhausting living with guilt, seeking approval by saying "yes" to things all the time, and needing to be perfect. Let's break these type of patterns together!

One of the things that drew me to becoming a counsellor was being the Executive Director of a woman's transition house dealing primarily with substance abuse.
We all have a story unique to our lived experiences, and I strive to provide a space for each person to feel safe and empowered. Our stories deserve to be heard with compassion and respect and without judgment or assumptions. When we feel safe, we can open up and allow ourselves to be seen, which takes courage. Working in the field of substance use for the past twelve years has allowed me to witness the strength, resiliency, and ability to heal that is in each of us.

I have worked in the helping field for over 18 years, 10 as an Addictions Counsellor.
My philosophy for counselling is rooted in finding connection in communities, safety from within, and discovery of what makes you feel passionate about a life worth living. I have always been a strong proponent for human development and diversity, and I'm curious by nature. Presently I work as an addictions counsellor, am an advocate for ending homelessness, and work with organizations to provide safety to our most vulnerable groups. Ive been to therapy, I struggled with addiction in the past... we all have had an adversity to overcome, and I can relate.

I specialize in active addiction and in addiction recovery; however, my scope does not end there.
Whatever has brought you here - the weariness of depression, the struggle of addiction, the heaviness of anxiety, the uncertainty of life in its entirety - I welcome you. Whether you have experienced a trauma, are going through a life transition, or just need someone to talk to, someone who will listen without judgement or scorn, my passion and goal as a clinician is to hold the space for you, walk with you through the darkness, guide you to peace and well-being, and help you to live a life you love.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
