You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, isolated, or as though you are spiraling downward. You may feel disconnected from the important people in your life. Or perhaps you have a deep wish to live more optimally from the inside out.

If you want to get to the heart of what hurts, and to understand yourself through a kinder lens then you have come to the right place. As a trauma therapist I work with incredible humans like you who are anxious, overwhelmed, navigating perfectionism, exhausted from people pleasing, spinning from a gaslighting experience, struggling in relationships, and often dealing with a difficult childhood. I believe in you and your ability to feel more present and alive. If that's tough for you to imagine now that’s ok, we’ll get to that. My clients are diverse and include "only childs", creative types, entrepreneurs and other therapists.

Are you feeling stuck in a negative cycle? Are you struggling with trusting yourself and other people? I specialize in helping adults work through perfectionist tendencies, Borderline Personality Disorder, and anxiety. The work we do together is a 'deep-dive' into longstanding relational patterns that keep you stuck. We work together to first understand the patterns, agree on which patterns are problems, and then work through them to alleviate unnecessary suffering.

You are constantly walking on eggshells. Always on high alert, your highly sensitive brain is always scanning other people's expressions to make sure everything is okay. You over-apologize, over-explain, over-share or disconnect and push your emotions deep down. You feel different - too emotional, too “much”. A sense of loneliness and longing for something you can’t describe looms in the background of everything you do. No matter what you try the feeling that there’s “something wrong with you” just won’t let up. You try to feel better - you have journaled, meditated, tried therapy, medication, breathwork…but nothing helps for long.

Are you a woman who finds herself feeling constantly overwhelmed? Are you plagued by thoughts that no matter how hard you try you feel like you are disappointing those closest to you? If so, you are not alone. There are so many messages about what women should be doing, feeling and looking like that it's easy to forget what matters to us as individuals. From the start, we need to empower our girls to celebrate what makes them unique so that they are able to flourish through the teenage years. Most importantly, women need to be grounded in who they are to navigate the conflicting roles of professional, partner, mother and lover.

We all hit a bump in the road from time to time and perhaps you've hit that bump. You might find yourself experiencing increased levels of stress or finding yourself constantly overthinking. Maybe your relationship is feeling strained; leaving you feeling alone, exhausted, and confused. Perhaps you have been interacting with your partner through overly intense or minimized emotions, triggered to react rather than stimulated to respond, stuck in what feels like a never-ending cycle of suffering and conflict. Maybe you have been feeling strongly conflicted, like different parts of yourself want different things or opposing beliefs.

Have you ever felt like you do not belong, that you are gravely misunderstood? What about striving for perfection in all aspects of your life? Or constantly feeling like a stranger in your own body? Does any of this sound familiar to you? I can assure you that you are not alone in these struggles. We might try to put on a brave face for the world; however, cracks begin forming in our façade, and self-doubt creeps in and eats away at our sense of self. I am here to normalize these feelings and empower you to become the best version of yourself, whatever that might look like. Everyone deserves kindness on their healing journey.

Finding a therapist has been on your mind, but maybe you’re not exactly sure where to start, or you find it hard to put into words what it is you want from the process. That’s ok! I would consider it a privilege to lean into and explore the “mess” of life and the day to day with you. Maybe you’re looking for deeper connections, increased confidence, help with parenting, getting “unstuck”, or navigating a life transition. Maybe you want to feel more grounded amidst the chaos that life can bring, rather than feeling as though it pulls you in. Or maybe you’re looking to better understand your own past, and how that impacts you now.

I believe that within each of us lies the potential to heal, to change, and to grow. Sometimes that potential gets clouded by the events in our lives and it can feel impossible to see a path forward. Maybe you’re feeling hopeless, or trapped in endless cycles of self-hatred. Maybe you’ve experienced things that were out of your control and are impacting the way you relate to yourself and exist in the world. Maybe you’re facing challenges related to trauma, fear, or shame, which have impacted the way you treat your body. That’s where I come in. Together, we will work towards creating the life that you want to live.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
