Are you longing for close connections with your loved ones, but something seems to jumble up your messages to one another, driving you apart? If you’re a parent, is your child or teen pulling back or acting out, leaving you unsure how to reach them? Do you catch yourself going through the motions to please or care for everyone around you, but losing sight of your own needs and voice along the way? Are hurts from trauma or grief clinging to you, overwhelming you, or making it hard to thrive?

You are a devoted parent who longs to feel close to your child but the teenage years are giving you a run for your money. You’re tired of walking on eggshells, tired of the fights and the silences and too tired to take care of yourself. You need someone to listen and help you to understand your teen’s behaviour. You want to connect with your child and feel more confident as a parent so you can enjoy one another again and support them on their journey to adulthood.

I am so happy that you are here. Starting your healing journey toward who you want to be can be incredibly overwhelming, intimidating, and scary. You don't need to be in a place where you are unhappy and struggling. Maybe you're experiencing a major life transition as a young-adult in post-secondary, navigating anxiety, relationship issues, or struggling in your career. In therapy, as is true in most circumstances, one size does not fit all. You’ll find me using a creative eclectic approach that tailors to your unique strengths and needs. I believe you have the inherent ability to be well and thrive well with the right support.

Throughout our lives we face many challenges; at times these can exceed our ability to problem solve and cope, even with the assistance of family and friends. At these times the professional assistance of a psychologist can be immensely helpful. I am a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience. I am qualified to assess, diagnose and treat any mental health disorder. I am also a health/rehabilitation psychologist, helping clients address the stress and depression associated with either chronic/acute illnesses, infertility and medical treatment. Would you like to learn skills that will help you process anxiety, depression, or trauma? Do you feel overwhelmed or desire more structure in your life? Do you often feel lonely or stuck inside your head? It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when life moves so quickly, which is why it can be helpful to have support with slowing things down and formulating a plan. Improving your mental health and well-being can be as simple as developing a daily routine that reduces stress and increases energy. It can also include processing difficult experiences, learning skills to cope with life challenges, or simply having someone to talk to.

Are you or someone you love between the ages of 12-24 and seeking mental health support? You are not alone. We know it hasn’t been easy these past few years and we see the impact on youth mental health. Early intervention for youth is so critical for better health outcomes later in life. When youth are empowered towards a greater sense of wellness they interact with the world around them in a positive and dynamic way. Providing a safe space where youth can talk openly about their lived experiences as they work towards their mental health goals is transformative in itself.

Vulnerability can be incredibly scary! Finding someone we genuinely connect with, someone with whom we feel comfortable enough to share our personal stories, can feel challenging. Hi, my name is Ines (she/her). I, too, have been in the same place you are now. That's why my primary focus is to create a safe enough, supportive, and compassionate space where you can share your journey, and I will be there to listen. Drawing from my own experiences with mental health, I am deeply passionate about this work and firmly believe in the significance of understanding the mind-body-soul connection.

I help anxious, perfectionistic, and highly sensitive people transform their relationship with their body to feel calm and confident as they navigate their life forward. You feel exhausted as your mind and body remind you each moment of every day of being consumed with anxiety. Not being understood by those closest to you, has you feeling alone. You may have ideas about what led to this, or maybe it came suddenly and you want to understand why. It’s here and feels fierce as it feels all consuming. You are trapped in your mind, ruminating about what has happened, while you wish it was different. You feel "stuck,” and want a change.

As a child psychotherapist, my approach involves keen observation of a child's play, drawings, words, and behavior. Through this process, I help children verbalize the thoughts and emotions underlying their challenging behaviors. I tailor my methods to each individual child or family, ensuring an age-appropriate approach. Maintaining a neutral and non-directive stance, I create an atmosphere where children and adolescents feel free to express themselves without fear of punishment or rejection. This fosters trust and understanding, allowing them to communicate their hopes and fears ultimately shaping their perception of the world.

Proficient in Urdu and Punjabi. Despite having a deep understanding of oneself and a solid commitment to personal growth, we can find ourselves stuck in repetitive patterns. Even while recognizing the patterns, restrictive beliefs and behaviours, often subconscious in nature, can hold us back and affect our everyday life and relationships. This recurring cycle is influenced by unresolved past traumas and experiences affecting our lives. If you can relate, please know you are not alone. Many introspective individuals face similar challenges as they try to find ways to move forward. Imagine a life free from the burdens of your past.

I work with individuals, couples and families through an adult attachment lens, trained and Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Because we are so important to each other and feeling safely, emotionally connected is our survival as humans, we tend to use strategies we learned in our earliest relationships with our caregivers. We all fear the universal anxiety of abandonment or rejection and are wired to monitor our relationships for security. The ways we cope with our vulnerability when these fears get triggered can push us into negative patterns with ourselves and others. Learn to trust our needs and send clear signals.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
