Male Counselling in Hexham, ENG
I work with a range of issues such as abuse, anger management, anxiety, depression, issues from the past, health related issues, identity issues, loss, men's issues, personal development, redundancy, relationships, self esteem, stress, trauma and work related issues.
Reaching out for help doesn’t come easily to many of us. Especially when we’re trying to contend with (maybe struggle with) something very painful and personal. I think it's great that you're seeking out therapy, at what might be a tough time for you. At the core of my approach is providing each client with empathy, acceptance, care, and genuineness. We work together to reduce the emotional difficulties you are living with. See a short video of me on my website adameaglecounsellor.co.uk , which also includes a blog.

Psychosynthesis integrates many aspects of our hu man experiences, including spiritual, emotional, cognitive, and physical aspects.
I specialise in people rather than conditions. I would like to journey alongside you over the medium (10 sessions or more) to long term. This gives us time to get to know each other and build trust in the therapy relationship. The issues you might bring can be varied. An initial conversation will quickly establish if I am the person to support you. I work with a modality called Psychosynthesis, this is a contextual psychology of the soul, one that integrates the spiritual and transcendent aspects of the hu man experience with our everyday experiences.

Life can be difficult. It throws up challenges, changes and conflicts. These can be within ourselves, or in our relationships and work, or from living in a worrying world. Counsellors work together with people who are faced with troubles, burdens and questions and seek to help them find a better place to be. Whatever the source of the problem I believe that counselling has the potential to help. People can talk to someone who will not judge them but listen to them carefully and supportively. Counsellors can also go a little deeper and use a range of techniques which may be of help.

Life can surprise and challenge us in many ways. Having a safe space and the support of a therapist can help you explore and 'make sense' of what's troubling you, build new perspectives and move forward in life in healthier ways.

The idea of my approach is an integrative one: I've studied, and I'm qualified to deliver, a mixed modality of therapies to address client issues. From psychodynamic active listening and using a safe space to get things out in the open, or perhaps using CBT techniques to address something specific, either way - I'm equipped to help guide you through what it is that is troubling you, or holding you back, from moving forward.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
