I have a particular interest in working with anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship issues and attachment issues, but I have also worked with many clients who are struggling with depression, suicidal ideation, loss and gender issues. Furthermore, I have also worked with a number of clients who were either waiting on assessment for, or who had recently been diagnosed with either ASD or ADHD, and were looking for support on managing the impact that these neuro-divergences have on their day to day lives and relationships.

Accepting that we're finding things difficult is often the hardest part. Throughout every stage of life we can experience times when things don’t feel right and we struggle with our relationships, or to make sense of our thoughts, feelings and world around us. This can lead to us feeling anxious, overwhelmed and struggling to communicate.

My passion for wanting to support mums was borne out of my own difficult journey into motherhood. A challenging pregnancy and a traumatic birth followed by severe postnatal depression and PTSD fuelled my drive to working with mums to make their journeys more manageable and enjoyable. Having worked hard on recovering from this difficult start to motherhood, I went on to train as a counsellor at the University of Edinburgh (MSc) and Chrysalis (Postgraduate Diploma). I have completed numerous trainings on trauma - specifically birth trauma and continue to participate in CPDs to inform my practice as a perinatal mental health therapist

You may know exactly what you want from counselling or it may just be a feeling that something isn't right. It might be issues arising from the past or events that are affecting you right now - whatever it is, I believe talking about it can make a real difference. Counselling can feel quite daunting at times and I will be there to listen with warmth and empathy; to be alongside you when there are tough times and to laugh with you when life feels a little lighter. Working together, we can explore what's bothering you and perhaps look at other ways of coping with life so you can move forward with confidence and optimism.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life.

The core conditions of Therapy are congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy. In other words, a genuine space to be yourself and have someone understand what you are experiencing. Within therapy, you should experience a safe place to express exactly what you are feeling and not be judged upon those feelings. Therapy should be what you need it to be for you.

Our work together focuses on our relationship and how we experience each other: I believe that it is through establishing an open, trusting and authentic relationship that healing can occur. My training was in Integrative Counselling, covering a wide range of therapeutic approaches, but my own particular areas of interest are in Existential Psychotherapy and Analytic Psychology and Buddhism.

Therapy is about understanding, developing and changing. I am a clinical psychologist with many years experience of working with adults. I assist people to identify what the core issues are, understand how these have arisen, and then develop skills and tools to make the changes they want to make. I work with people with anxiety and anxiety disorders, low mood, low self-esteem, low confidence and those living with the effects of traumatic experiences. I also offer comprehensive assessments for those who have yet to fully understand what is happening for them, to help move them on in their lives.

I work with women in the midlife stage who need support to navigate through emotional overwhelm. Maybe you're feeling drained of energy and don't have the same reserves as you once did, things are getting on top of you and it feels increasingly difficult to relax. Perhaps your Inner Critic has become strong and you constantly worry if you are doing enough or have forgotten to do something on the ever increasing to-do list. My aim is to allow space for you to find your voice again, work out what needs to change in order to lessen the emotional overload and in doing so, build up your confidence.

Why do we seek counselling? When life seems to move in ways we cannot control, we might feel anxious, overwhelmed or fearful. When we are out of sync with life, we can feel stuck, depressed or isolated. As a result, we can feel the impact on our emotional and mental well-being in our personal and professional lives, not to mention relationships. Do you want to live a more connected life? In therapeutic sessions with me, I will support you to understand and deal with difficult thoughts as well as challenging feelings and emotions so you can live a more integrated life.

Being a qualified psychodynamic therapist means that I understand how even the smallest of issues can play such a huge part in what you may be feeling inside. We can work through this together, as I invite you to share your issues in a warm, empathic, yet well-held space.
