Female Counselling in Dublin, DN
Most of us are very good at bottling up how we are really feeling, this can serve us in the short term but sometimes these suppressed feelings will express themselves in more destructive ways such as explosive anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, self-harm and even physical illness. I will work with you to gently allow suppressed feelings emerge so they can be explored, understood and given the attention and kindness they deserve. I work indoors, online and outdoors in nature; where ever we decide to work I will create a comfortable, safe and held space where you can talk about and begin to heal whatever is going on for you.

I aim to provide clients with a safe and confidential space to explore personal issues. Working from a humanistic and person centred ethos means I believe that all individuals hold the tools within to heal and grow. When we experience early adversity or traumatic life events, our perception can become clouded, we create defences and these defences disrupt the relationship held with one's true self. Issues such as low self esteem, anxiety and depression arise. I work in a collaborative and empowering yet gentle way to accompany you on your journey of reconnection and healing.

It is completely okay to not feel okay in this moment. What challenges are weighing on your heart? Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, gripped by anxiety, or simply lost in the swirl of life’s demands. Maybe the pressure of balancing work, being a parent, and showing up fully for your children feels like an emotional rollercoaster. In these environments, it is easy to get caught up in doing rather than being, leading to a disconnect from yourself. With 20 years of experience in corporate settings, balancing work and family life, I understand the pressures this can bring.

Sometimes you might find yourself being really sensitive and feeling overwhelmed with emotions that are coming out of nowhere, often flying off the handle, or being tearful and upset. You might not be feeling yourself, like you are carrying a huge weight and you don’t know what it is or why. It might be that you feel really tense, and ‘on-edge’ and it’s difficult to relax. It can also be that you feel totally shut-off from others, detached and disconnected, feeling empty and numb. Life has lost its colour. Others constantly feel guilty, find it really hard to say no to others, and live in a constant state of never being good enough.

If you are experiencing a time of difficulty or crisis in your life it can be very helpful to have someone to talk to who not only listens to you but who can offer understanding, support and encouragement. A caring, non-judgmental and warm environment makes it possible for you to explore what is happening in your life and how you are relating to it.

Oftentimes due to circumstances that occurred in early life, we can abandon the self or learn to prioritise others. Therapy is a useful tool in bringing a person back to the self. It can help people to become empowered, to advocate for themselves and to free themselves from the grips of their limited beliefs. It can be an opportunity to learn to pause and rest in a society that values productivity. Therapy can be a useful space to create boundaries to protect your energy in everyday life, or when struggling with depression, anxiety or health issues.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
