As a therapist my aim is to provide a safe, welcoming and confidential space in which we can work together to explore the reasons you have come to counselling. Those reasons vary from person to person and may include, anxiety, grief, loss, stress, depression, relationship issues, difficulty with trust, trauma, low self-esteem or coping with change in an increasingly changing world. Together, we can explore these issues and learn to break free of limiting patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back and take steps to move forward in life with greater ease and peace.

I learned during the pandemic that online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy.
I offer online counselling and psychotherapy to adults (18+) and couples in Ireland, UK and mainland Europe. No matter what burden or worries you are dealing with, support is available. My counselling training and experience includes: grief, self-esteem, panic attacks, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, adjusting to change, loss of job, relationship challenges, trauma, depression, health challenges and general wellbeing. I have limited availability for in person counselling at my private practice in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, however my practice will move fully online from November 2024.

Our lives are like a game of snakes and ladders. We move up and we fall down many times. Life will always have periods where we fall and don't know how to get back up. We experience loss - of loved ones, relationships, work; we have times we feel overwhelmed by anxiety, negative thoughts or stress. These are the times we need support. Wherever you are on your journey I meet you there. Whatever you wish to overcome I will support you safely. Whatever it is you wish to look at, remember you are the expert in your own life, and it is a privilege to walk with you until you feel ready to make your own way.

I believe in the clients’ ability to heal themselves and for the human potential to grow and change to be their best possible self. I see the therapeutic relationship as one which is co-created where the client is given a safe space to be themselves. While some life transitions may not always need support, I am keen to guide clients through whatever life challenges may bring them. My approach is a deeply sensitive, empathic, and compassionate way of being with clients. I believe a gentle, non-judgmental approach helps the client trust in the process of therapy through the supporting presence of a kind, listening heart.

Most people experience emotional distress or feel stuck or unfulfilled at times in life. Whether you are seeking relief from emotional suffering or, have a deep desire for growth within yourself and with others, the counselling relationship can support you. The empathy, honesty and unconditional acceptance of a skilled therapist can provide a sometimes challenging, but always safe and nurturing environment. I have in depth experience with families, neurodivergent individuals, children with behaviour of concern and adolescents who are struggling with the transition towards adulthood. I accept and affirm diversity in all forms.

Counselling main focus will always be on the individual and what goals he or she would like to achieve. The space and time provided in counselling are component's to assist in the process of change and personal growth. However space and time will quickly fade into the background as the beautiful process of counselling begins. The counselling process can be a very rare experience in one's life and I sincerely believe it is a shared gift. Asa counsellor, to witness someone facing there fears and struggles is truly astonishing. The fascination of a person allowing another into the depts of their unfiltered life is genuinely remarkable

Therapy is food for the soul ! You can disclose what you feel comfortable talking about at your own pace in a confidential, safe, private space. Many people come to therapy to help with current struggles or past experiences, but many also attend just to maintain a good mindset. Each person’s life experience is different and as we know sometimes it can be challenging, therefore talking can help to clear our minds, uncover our struggles, and understand our emotions. Therapy can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. Everyone deserves to be heard and supported. Looking forward to meeting you :)

Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, stress or panic attacks? Difficult past and present relationships affect our mental health. The demands and expectations of family and work can leave us feeling mentally & emotionally exhausted. For over 20 years, I have worked with teenagers, adults, and families struggling with substance use disorders (SUDs) and underlying mental health conditions, having also faced these challenges within my own family. These experiences have left me a deeply compassionate and committed therapist in helping my clients restore balance and harmony with their own personal challenges.

I believe that counselling is about providing a safe, supportive and confidential environment in which you can acknowledge difficult and unpleasant feelings, recognise unhelpful patterns of behaviour and come to terms with troublesome life-situations. I can help you to explore, understand and resolve the issues that are compromising your ability to live a full, satisfying and happy life. Counselling is no different to any other service that you pay for; I believe that you are entitled to be fully informed, involved and empowered. I will encourage you to set goals and identify steps along the way that will show that we are on track.

It can often be challenging to pinpoint the source of our unhappiness. It might feel as though something has disconnected us from the spontaneous creativity and joy that characterize a fulfilling life. Instead of feeling free and self-determined, we may feel trapped and pressured by societal demands, unsatisfying relationships, or emotions we don’t know how to handle. Regardless of your life stage, we will collaboratively address symptoms of anxiety and depression, enhance interpersonal relationships and attachment, and improve self-esteem. Your healing is personal, your therapy will be too.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
