I seek to meet my clients where they are, sensitively feeling into what it might be like to be you, with respect, openness and warmth. I have a particular interest in guiding individuals through the intimate process of working through emotional pain and early relational trauma. I tend to focus on what is happening in the client/therapist relationship. How do you feel about the way we are working together? What does the connection between us feel like today? Examining relational patterns in this immediate way can help us discover what it means to engage non-defensively and authentically with ourselves and with life.

Kia ora, I'm Sheena (she/her). If you are feeling stuck, it can sometimes be hard to see choices and options. A specific event or transition may be impacting you. It could be difficulties in relationships. Or, anxiety, depression, or something else, may be getting in the way of the life you want to live. I work with my clients, to create space between the person and the “problem”. Within this space we can explore how experiences and beliefs from your past may be shaping your present, identify how you would prefer your life to be, and discover the action that you can take to get there.

Kia ora, welcome, and 你好! Psychotherapy starts with a wish to discover the lost or submerged parts of the self, or to understand why events, situations, and relationships result in heartbreak, disappointment, frustration, annoyance, etc., or to change a pattern within yourself and your behaviour or a dynamic with others. To start this soulful exploration together takes commitment, courage, and curiosity. I hope to venture with you together, by providing a sensitive, kind, confidential, connective space.

I provide an opportunity for you to discuss your life openly, and to consider the influences of your thoughts and experiences with curiosity. You will explore new strategies, shape your ways of coping, and make choices about the direction you want your life to develop. During therapy, I encourage exploring ways to make sense of your life, past, present and future. Anyone can benefit from exploring and having more awareness of who they are. Knowing ourselves with love and respect enhances life immeasurably.

I'm amongst the most prolific mindfulness based therapists (ACT, CBT & DBT) in Australasia. I'm quoted as saying my expertise comes second, compassionate therapy begins with "validating the clients experience along with practical tools for change." Adult ADHD, giftedness, mindful therapy for substance abuse, grief, relationships, anxiety, depression, parenting... Clients want to heal and want to thrive. I believe we are all on a sliding wellness continuum, we need support from time to time. I am also deeply concerned by the number of people struggling to afford therapy - I have lowed my fee to assist in these difficult times.

Hello, I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT). CBT makes sense to me, and I really enjoy using this evidenced based therapy to help people address areas in their life which are not working for them. If you are looking for help with low mood, anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias , anger, relationship problems, goal setting, problem solving, bulimia, low self-esteem, then CBT is a good option.

I believe therapy is one of the best gifts we can give to our present, past and future selves. To our children, and those close to us. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I facilitate an exploration of how your life experiences might be alive in your current struggles and relationships. Often the ways we learnt to manage difficulty may now hinder, rather than help us.

Life can bring challenges that require a space to talk things over. This is where Counselling can be beneficial; by supporting you to make sense of the things you are struggling with, find ways to cope, and discover strategies to help. I aim to provide a safe place for you to explore these various aspects of yourself, including both strengths and difficulties. Life Coaching can also be helpful in showing you a way forward, clarifying your goals and values and helping you to explore your talents and strengths. It can show us where we might be stuck and make us aware of old patterns of bahaviour that might be holding us back.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
