Welcome! All of us come to a time in our lives where we want to talk to someone. In a safe place to process our thoughts and feelings, while using self-compassion and nonjudgment. To come to a deeper understanding of our behaviors, emotions, and ideas, or what the root may be. We then develop our sense of clarity and pleasures in life. We cooperatively define the direction of your counseling session and goals. We are all unique in our humanity, as our situations and experiences are all different yet the same. And at the beginning of each day, we can all conclude "I am enough".

You deserve to be having the best days! You know that something has to shift, but not exactly sure what that is or how things will change. Your emotions might be inhibiting you from feeling empowered, confident and clear in your decision making. I would be honored to support you in gaining perspective through a style that is direct, down to earth and focuses on a collaborative approach. I believe that life is a series of transitions, some more challenging than others, and that there is no reason to proceed solo.

In this experiential group, there will be exercises for you to participate in as members of the group and in dyads. We will be specifically zeroed in on learning how to validate when we feel defensive, how to share what’s going on below the surface, how to recognize the moves we make that block connection, and how to connect from a place of mutual vulnerability. When patterns develop in our interactions, it takes concerted effort to modify them. This group is intended to disrupt ingrained patterns and provide skills and tools to take your life in a different direction.

Hello! I'm Bre, and I bring a trauma-informed and holistic approach to therapy, focusing on the mind, body, and environment. Central to my practice are several core beliefs: that all people are capable of healing and positive change, that each of us has an innate inner wisdom that can guide us on our journey toward healing, and that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (even the ones we don’t like) serve a purpose. Although we all possess the ability to change, I understand that the path toward growth and healing can be a difficult and winding road. It is an honor to offer my support and expertise as your co-pilot along the way.

This group will meet weekly to discuss and process dreams and their meaning in our lives. We will explore the ways in which our dreams provide new perspectives, a window into our challenges, and also the ways in which our dreams might be leading us forward towards our wholeness. We will utilize the Robert A Johnson book "Inner Work" and the Jungian approach to dream interpretation. You will be asked to keep a dream journal and our group will provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to process what you discover in your dreams. Sliding scale available.

Life is so mysterious. We don't choose to be born, we don't choose our parents or our childhood, we don't choose those experiences that become our greatest pains. And yet, it is through these pains that we develop great compassion, strength, and wisdom. It is not despite of these challenges that we grow; it is through them that we transform. I came to these conclusions through both experience and study, and I would love to assist the curious, those that don't quite fit in, those that know that there is more to life than status, and those that want to crack open their shell.

Do you feel stuck? Are you ready for change but don't know where to start? With compassion and skill, I look at client issues through the lens of relationships: we impact those around us and they impact us. Using EMDR, IFS, and emotionally focused therapy, I help individuals build a healthy self image and develop coping strategies to handle anxiety and depression. With couples and families, I use restoration therapy to go to the heart of the problem by looking at the emotions that we feel when we are in conflict and define the cycles that we get trapped in.

After 25+ years of providing counseling I find my philosophy has grown simpler and more to the point. Successful counseling is built on a positive and trusting relationship, much as successful living is dependent on trusting, healthy relationships. I bring a broad array of treatment tools to my work including gestalt, object relations and psychodynamic theory. Most importantly I bring myself; my heart, my humor, my understanding, knowledge and years of experience. I work with adults and children, couples and groups(this includes families).

The group helps individuals gain a better sense of self in relation to others in their lives. Group members come to group with various individual struggles and goals, and support each other to speak openly regarding one's life experiences. Experiencing other group members in various ways that often helps all in the group identify patterns that are similar to their daily life. By speaking openly and respectfully to one's thoughts and feelings in group will help others and oneself reach desired goals. In addition, the group utilizing somatic therapy techniques to help release tension the body often keeps from past experiences.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in Oregon?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
